they canceled the gossip girl inspired target clothing line.
heres the artical
Producers of TV's Gossip Girl are furious after bosses at U.S. retail chain Target pulled out of a deal to sell designer Anna Sui's Blair Waldorf-inspired fashion range. The cast, including Leighton Meester who stars as the socialite, was preparing to film a partyscene featuring decorations based on the Target company's bullseye symbol in New York last Tuesday. But store chiefs axed the shoot - and reportedly scrapped plans to sell clothes based on the characters over fears of associating the brand with the scandalous show.A source tells the New York Daily News, "One of Target's top executives got nervous about being that closely associated with the show, given the (debauchery) its characters get into."There was going to be signage (at the party), as well as Target symbols in purple and black - Anna's signature colors. And it was rumored that Anna herself was going to be making a cameo appearance."The crew was thrown into a frenzy because they had to scrap everything they had planned. They can't believe Target would bail on them, especially after publicly announcing the collaboration."Gossip Girl has attracted millions of fans with its controversial storylines featuring privileged teenagers drinking and taking drugs.

Personally I think non-fans and the press make the show out to be far worse than it actually is. Yeah they showed Chuck drinking several times, and in one episode him offering pills to Dan, but its not like its "Weeds" or 'Sex In he City" something.

Plus I recently watched part of a rerun of that new 90210, and in the early ep. they clearly showed/referenced Adriana doing cocaine in a car or something.

This is outrageous! I think Target just threw themselves in a bad light. Bad business decision on their part.
And yes bfan, there are plenty of shows out there that can be scandalous. Has anyone seen 'True Blood'. (Which I love by the way.)

Well that's too bad for them! I think it's a really stupid decision from Target, because, honestly, Gossip Girl's not the most scandalous or controversial show out there in my opinion. Plus it's kind of stupid to pull out of the deal this late, I mean the collaboration has been announced a while ago, there's pics of the clothes,...
"Gossip Girl has attracted millions of fans with its controversial storylines featuring privileged teenagers drinking and taking drugs." --> Yeah, but I don't think that's the main reason why people watch the show.

Yeah, 90210 were also drug and drinking stuff.
Btw. I have never thought that ' Oh, Blair Waldorf does drugs and drinks I gotta do that too! ' lol
But yea, these are bad news for sure. I mean, GG cast clothing inspired a lot of us I guess, but I hope they find someone else.

I would have bought the clothes just b/c they were GG inspired. Bad call on Target's part.
Also, I agree w/ the above - I do not feel pressured to do drugs b/c people on TV use them.

When I go to Target in a few days I'm going to say really loud "I wonder when the Gossip Girl clothing line is coming, I'm so excited to buy something!" HA! Then they'll know they just screwed themselves over.

wait i just read this in anouther artical
But not to fear, teen girls. Although you may not be seeing Sui’s duds on “Gossip Girl,” you’ll still be able to purchase the clothing in Target stores come September. The chain’s marketing team is in the process of figuring out how to brand the collection. It may not be associated with your favorite upper East Side zip code anymore — but if you’re clever, you can still figure out what would have belonged to who. XOXO?
so i guess they are still doing it, it just wont be labled as gossipgirl inspired and it wont be in the show at all. i guess thats better than nothing

I'd rather have it GG themed anyway
