I'm having an incredibly boring day. And I'm thinking about past/present shows that I have a OTP besides GG. I think I have a bit of bad luck because I do tend to ship couples that do not end up together, are destined not to end up together.
- Clana-Smallville Clark/Lana: Talk about a character that the writers bulldozed over, Lana Lang. I was a bit younger when the show first started and I was a fangirl crazy about Clana. They had the most amazing chemistry and I can admit they were the biggest reason I watched the show. I stopped watching after S8.
- Brucas- OTH Brooke/Lucas: I just really disliked Peyton. After all the S3, Lucas talking about how Brooke was the one, it just really killed me to see them break up again. This is a ship that I loved, but the rest of the show was still awesome, UNTIL S6 when Lucas/Peyton left. WTH?
- Kelly/Brandon- 90210: Even though they didn't start til S4/S5, they drove the show through S8. They were so amazing together.
- Jate-LOST Jack/Kate: Let's not even get into how much of a dissappointment I felt at the ending of this show. I loved Jack and Kate, I was hooked from their first scene, where she stitched him up. I literally cried when he died and found how she had to live the rest of her life without him. Even though they basically ended the show 'together' it was still terribly hard to watch. I think this was the biggest heart ache from a tv show that mimicked the real life thing. HAha.
I do love Peter/Olivia in Fringe. Fringe is seriously one of the only shows that I can say has gotten better and better since the beginning. I love each season more than the last one.
What about ya'll?Posted 3/29/2012 1:41:19 PM #
I agree about kelly/brandon even though I wasn't an avid 90210 fan and only watched it occasionally I really liked the two of them together and I hated when she got amnisia and forgot about him. (What happened after that?) I also like brenda and dylan on that show.
I actually liked kate better with sawyer in lost but I also liked jack and kate. Lost is one of the few shows I really didn't care much about the romance. I liked pretty much all the pairings that came up and my favourite is probably desmond and penny.
I've never seen the other shows you mentioned but some other OTP for me are:
Buffy/Spike - I really liked her with Angel at first and I did cry a few times because of them (like at the end of season 2 and in the angel episode when she forgets about the day they spent together) but after she and spike got together I changed ship. I just loved spike soo much and the two of them were so much fun together. I really hated the series finale!
Piper/Leo - Charmed - They faced so many ostacles but still managed to stay together. Plus they had 2 kids! lol (I also like Phoebe and Cole until everything went to hell...)
Veronica/Logan - Veronica Mars - I loved the first 2 seasons of this show and they are the main reason. As logan said they were "epic"!
And of course there is Joey/Pacey - Dawson's Creek - They were just perfect together! So glad she chose him in the end!Posted 3/29/2012 2:53:26 PM #
It would actually be interesting to see if different ship preferences in other shows correlate with shipping preferences in GG.
I shipped Pacey/Joey in Dawson's Creek as well as Sawyer/Kate in Lost hard. (Rachel - although we were on opposite ships on Lost, I can totally relate to your disappointment at the end of the series - that had to be one of the worst endings of all times, not only were pretty much all shippers screwed over - except the Sawyer/Juliet fans but they left so many questions unanswered.)
To a lesser extent than the above I liked Dylan/Brenda in 90210, Veronica/Logan in Veronica Mars and Rory/Jess in Gilmore Girls.Posted 3/29/2012 3:33:54 PM #
I think I have a bit of bad luck because I do tend to ship couples that do not end up together, are destined not to end up together.Read more: http://www.tvfanatic.com/forum/gossip-girl/general-discussion/past-otps/#ixzz1qXHzW1CR Rachel, I am the same way. My couples never end up together, and I generally hate any given canon endgame couple. On TV, I also shipped Buffy/Spike, Logan/Veronica, Brandon/Kelly, and Brucas... among many, many others. On daytime soaps, I shipped everything from Ridge and Caroline on the (trashy) Bold and the Beautiful as a child to John and Evangeline on One Live to Live in grad school... but daytime soap creators tend to kill off my favorite female characters. (So do authors! I shipped several of the characters who Rowling killed, for instance.) Almost shipped Quam on Glee, but I'm learning better... that show's so camp until it's difficult to ship the kids. I do ship Wemma, and that's going to come in, but they're not the central focus of the show. My husband watches Fringe, but from the little I've seen of it, I do like Peter and Olivia together... but... I don't want to spoil it, I thought they messed that up recently, too? In books, I shipped Harry/Hermione long and hard, was Team Jacob, and still am Team Gale. I hate all three of those endgames because the authors not only made the canon couples endgame, but also made them "forever and ever" couples by writing these epilogues and denouements so you couldn't even do post-canon in fanon... you have to go back, retcon, or go AU. I think my last ship that actually came in was Corey and Topanga on Boy Meets World, although they really didn't have a lot of competition. None of my childhood ships happened... one of the biggest (showing my age) was Kevin and Winnie on The Wonder Years. I just knew they were going to get together, and then they didn't. Chair's my first ever couple who's had a chance to be endgame. I call myself the Fourth Horsewoman of a Shipper's Apocalypse... my presence on a ship spells its doom, so I really should have just stayed a casual viewer on GG if I wanted Chair to have a fighting chance. I have no idea why I'm not shipping Dair, because looking at my past history, I really should be. I think there's something about the underdog ships that appeal to me... but I am so tired of being on the losing side of love triangles, squares, and hexagons. Please, creators, let one of my ships come in!Posted 3/29/2012 3:43:46 PM #
And I hate the fact that this forum sometimes decides to screw my paragraph breaks! Ugh.Posted 3/29/2012 3:44:24 PM #
90210 Decided that after EVERYTHING Kelly has been through Brandon should cheat on Kelly, then after forgiving him after a handful of episodes he should propose. Then seconds before they walk down the aisle they both decide to call off the wedding, remain friends and celebrate at the reception, AND then SLEEP together that night. After that Brandon gets a job offer and Jason Priestly leaves the show and enter the worst two seasons of tv history in my opinion.
Ugh Lost, I'm still upset about it! It's like they fed new questions with new questions until they had no clue what they were doing and just thought hey! since we basically killed all these people let's bring them all into a pergatory where they wonder around for the last season with new lives until it's time to move on to the after life. HUGE FAIL. And talk about issues, Jack drove me crazy with how he had to be the one chosen, and they had to go back and set things right. To save the world from the evil monster getting out? None of our questions were answered.
Corey and Topanga all the way, I should just end here! haha
I have to agree with you all the way about Team Jacob and Team Gale, I won't spoil Hunger Games for anyone but wow what a dissapointment with the entire series, the first book is the only one that I enjoyed. However, I recently saw the movie and I thought it was an excellent adaptation.
And Twilight, I did read them, but I stopped watching the movies after Eclipse because I think Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison take part in some of the worst acting I've ever been submitted to. I can't even really ship either because I am an avid reader and the story telling for me just did nothing for me.
And guys I think I might be the only fan out there who remains a Dawson/Joey fan! (I know everyone is like WHAT?) But seriously, I am in love with Joshua Jackson, I just did not like Pacey with Joey after their relationship ended and he left after graduation. I think I might be more okay with it IF Dawson and Joey had a real chance at a relationship. I still love Dawsons Creek but I was a huge Dawson/Joey, Pacey/Audrey, Jack/Jen(as BFFS).Posted 3/29/2012 4:12:09 PM #
And gosh I think it's so weird for me to see people who shipped Harry/Hermione. I literally grew up with the books, I am such a big fan, I could go on and on about how much I think HP is one of the most complex and unique stories ever told.
But since I started reading at such a young age I never really shipped anyone! I read purely for the story and I've re-read them about every 2 years ever since. I am going to have to go back and re-read them again but I still don't think I will see the Harry/Hermione connection. For me, Harry was involved with so much I would have rather seen him end up alone at the end of the series and no epilogue or one that explained what his career was! I didn't see the Harry/Ginny thing as being something ever-lasting either. And I just love Ron and Hermione!
But I think the worst thing that happened in HP was Lupin and Fred. Seriously Fred? What about the joke shop!?Posted 3/29/2012 4:23:55 PM #
Clark/Lana - These two were my first real ship. Every scene of theirs was perfect, and like you said they had the best chemistry. I'm still upset that they didn't end up together (they deserved it more than Clois IMO) but it is a Superman story so it makes sense I guess:/ I stopped watching in season 8 also.
Brooke/Lucas - Another ship we have in common! ha. I also didn't like Peyton, I didnt think Leyton was very believeable. Brucas had the best chemistry and they were PERFECT in season three. I stopped watching OTH in midseason 4.
Rory/Jess, Gilmore Girls - I always ship the couples where the "bad guy" falls in love with a girl and the girl changes him. I think its really sweet (and unrealistic, ha) I loved their story and I pretty sure they were supposed to be endgame, but their was some actor drama. I watched Gilmore Gilrs all the way through.
Hyde/Jackie, That 70's show - This is also a couple where a "bad boy" falls in love and it changes him. These two were very surprising, but I knew I'd love them together. They were not endgame sadly, Jackie ended up with Fez:/ (don't even get me started on that relationship)
As far as movies go, I'm an Edward/Bella, Katniss/Peeta, and Ron/Hermoine fan.Posted 3/29/2012 5:53:41 PM #
*gasp* I spelled *Hermione's name wrong:/ sorryPosted 3/29/2012 5:56:06 PM #
@Rachel - Did all of that really happen to Bendon and Kelly?! lol Glad I didn't watch all that! Seriously messed up! Way to ruin a good couple!
@skatechair - I forgot about rory and jesse! I loved them together! A pity the writers decided to screw them up! I hated logan!
As for HP - I liked harry and hermione together and thought they had huge potential but it was pretty obvious they were never going to happen (especially after book 4) so I resigned myself to the inevitable and when ron and hermione happened I wasn't so disappointed. Looking back I never really shipped anyone there. When harry and ginny got together, I was a little surprised and I didn't particularly like them but in the end I tend to forget all about them!
@dr holland - I hate it when my favourite characters get killed! It happens all the time to me too! I really hated when Sirius was killed! He was my favourite character! I think that was the first time I cried while reading a book! And then of course in the last 2 books there were more: dumbledore, hedwig, lupin, tonks, fred and most importantly Snape! My second favourite character! It was a massacre!Posted 3/29/2012 5:57:31 PM #
