    Well let's face it.... guys for some reason do not like it when women either get them out of a dangerous situation or if you buy them a suit they can't afford or if you pay for dinner.... obviously Carter wanted to take responsibility for what he had done (following the brain instinct), Serena like any other girl followed her heart and got her man out of trouble, because she wants him in bed with her and not out on some dusty field working the sweat off...so for me it was hertbreakin to see how he left her heartbroken, BUT... this only means he does not want to be that guy who's ass was saved by a girl, so he did the right thing....let her go, because he trully loves her (but that is my heart's  instinct) just like when Chuck told Blair it was all a game, to let her go and be happy... So even though this leaves the door open for Serenate...i am sure that it will all follow the same pattern = Serena is sad over Carter, so Nate steps in and they grow closer, but Nate is tooooooooo sweeet for Serena, it will be even more boring than when she was with pathetic Dan...trust me, they will Carter bring back in for some action, just like when they brought Blair and Chuck together after Blair and Nate in the 2 season....but that's my theory.
