Season 5 was my favorite
I didn't read this essay but the title.........lord are you a writer or?Posted 5/22/2012 10:08:32 AM #
I mean only GG writers itself could pretend to love the bullshit they wrote.Posted 5/22/2012 10:09:15 AM #
Nope, I don't mean because of how much you wrote, or because of the content since I haven't read it. It's just, I find it unbelievable. Everyone was complaining about this season at some point, and even if I was a Chair fan, I'd be extremely bitter.Posted 5/22/2012 10:27:16 AM #
No offense, WW, but this was the absolute worst season and some of the worst tv ever. HEre's a great open letter to the GG writers, I found on a Dair fans tumblr. I think it speaks for all GG fans.
To the writers of Gossip Girl,
We, the fans of this absolutely ridiculous show, deserve better than the writing you have given us in season five. You have taken every opportunity to be lazy, cut corners, and run from character development. Instead you have chosen the cheap thrill, the “shocking” twist.
You have recycled plots, regressed character development, and failed to see a good number of story lines through to their conclusion. You have cheated us in every way you could, and judging by your interviews, you are blind to the fact.
This frustration on our part is independent of any ship, though when it came to relationships, you were particularly awful.
After dragging out the royal wedding so that it could highlight your hundredth episode, you all but ignored the prince, bringing up Blair’s marriage only when it was convenient to the plot.
Blair’s pact with God to keep her away from Chuck, in order to set her up for a temporary relationship with Dan was cheap.
Likewise, after building Blair and Dan up for two seasons, you could have at least given them closure.
Most of Chuck and Blair’s scenes contained the cheesiest writing, cheapening what could have been powerful moments.
Having Dan and Serena hook up to parallel the pilot wasn’t clever, it was pathetic, because it was beyond obvious that is why you had that happen.
Though we do wish to thank you for giving Nate a love interest who wasn’t old enough to be his mother for once, we do wish you hadn’t interspersed that with Elizabeth Hurley.
I’m sure there really is a better plot line for Chuck other than the identity of his mother.
As a side note, bringing Bart back from the dead had all the class of a daytime soap opera, a genre that’s slowly dying off. Congratulations.
I’m also certain that there is more for Serena to do than resort to sex tapes and drugs.
You don’t seem to have any idea who you want Dan to be.
You don’t seem to have any idea of what to do with Nate.
You seem to have no fucking clue who Blair Waldorf is, what she’s been through, or what her character could be if you weren’t so busy throwing her in love triangles.
(Remember that time she was pregnant for no real reason other than your amusement? Remember when she lost the baby and NO ONE CARED?)
All season long you’ve employed lazy writing techniques. You’ve recycled plot ideas from past seasons. And in the finale to your penultimate season you regressed the characters back to where they were five years before.
And why do any of us bother to continue to watch?
As you work on your final season (which thankfully is short and will allow us all to finally be free of a show we once loved) try to be better. Take us back to the days where we were able to watch an hour long episode and not be constantly reminded that this is all scripted drama.
When the writing is good, we forget there are writers.
When the writing is what we had this season, you are all we can think about.

@All lurk and no play EVERYTHING YOU WROTE, BASICALLY.Posted 5/22/2012 10:45:35 AM #
IMO,,season 4 was better than season 3 and 5..and season 1 is the great season..season 2 has too much drama but still fresh from season 1...Posted 5/22/2012 11:45:50 AM #
I watch it for a good fix of drama and interesting storylines and that's what I feel I got this season.
Yeah, but it needs to be LOGICAL. NY getting attacked by Aliens would've been dramatic too, still wouldn't make sense. There were like 2 episodes I kind of enjoyed this season and that was it.
K, that letter is filled with epicness!Posted 5/30/2012 6:28:14 PM #
