The demise of serena
-
when the show first started, i was really rooting for serena as the heroine of the story, though i knew that blair had been in the books. She still is my favourite character. serena was supposed to be this sort of conflicted slut with a heart of gold turned good girl, and then she got too boring. And in a desperate attemp to make her "relevant" or interesting this last season, the writers made serena look like a total idiot! She always needs to b saved by some1 its ridiculous... does anyone agree?
what can writers do to fix her?

I think season 2 was just more focused on Blair, and it sort of screwed up everyone's storylines in a way. But I could be wrong, it's hard to tell who the protoganist is...and from what I have heard several times from the fans, Leighton/Blair got more shine from the show, so if that's true, it's probably what led to Serena lacking interest this season
IMO it looked like the Gabriel crap was a tool to buildup Chuck and Blair, I mean come on...they didn't even show us how it ended and just had Georgina in the last few seconds saying she fixed it

I know, its just lazy writing... the writers are too focused on chair, which i don't mind occasionally as long as it doesn't interfere with story lines...

I think some of the problems' came from the aborted storyline disease the writing staff had going on. Queen S should have been a major storyline with ramifications for both Serena and Blair. I mean...I thought it was the best chance since early season 1 to get inside Serena's head, and it lasted what? About 10 seconds at the end of an episode? That could have played out for quite a while, and not with always having the girls at each other's throats.
The aborted Aaron storyline was also a problem, although I understand why they called that one short seeing as Aaron was so godawful. But wasn't he supposed to be around for quite a few eps, and that ended up leaving Serena hanging a bit as well.
I think the best chance of restoring Serena (and all the characters really) is a switch back to a more character, rather than plot, driven show. There could be a lot of interesting development for Serena as she deals with her Dad, and other family issues, her new family structure, and (I hope) Carter and her melding of former bad girl and reformed selves. However, when the show switches to a more plot driven (and rushed and hacky and I'm going off on a tangent ;) ) storytelling style, both Serena and Nate are kind of left behind because they more react to situations than scheme or plot. If the writers aren't going to deal with the emotional ramifications of the goings on, their characters don't have much to do besides be rescued and look pretty. Whereas in early season 1, when Serena was embarking on her relationship with Dan and repairing her relationship with Blair you could see how she reacted to things and she was awesome.
I was really disappointed about the lack of Serena and Blair time this season. I think we learn the most about both of them through the other, and they'll always be the core of the show to me.

Chair will get ruined if it's focused on too much...
Serena and Dan's SL in season 1 was pretty good, but now it's insignificant, ancient history...and I'm seeing a lot of serenate fans screaming Barbie and Ken lately, lol.
Blake said she thinks the SL about finding her father will be good though

I think the finding her father will be a really good SL for Serena, because as JKay was saying, the show should be more character driven than plot driven. And with finding her father, she will be discovering herself and her past. She could become conflicted, which would be interesting to see.

Well I just don't understand how they thought Serena would be the focus of the show when she starts out unsympathetic to begin with. I mean, she slept with her best friend's boyfriend, so of course the audience is going to sympathize more with Blair. She's easier to relate to.
If they gave Serena some backstory to explain why and how she became a party girl (maybe flashbacks of her with Georgina or family issues with one of her mother's many husbands) it would have given her more depth.
I think this season, they should either have her become more of a party girl/socialite or try to see if they can build on Serenate now that Blair is with Chuck.

I like your ideas GGfanforever and that probably would be a good solution to helping fans root for Serena again becaus she isn't a bad character, she just needs some interesting storylines.

I think the Serena trying to find her dad storyline though does give some insight as to why Serena used to be wild. It's common for girls who don't have a good relationship with their dads to seek this lack of attention in other men. Hopefully, the writers don't stuff up this storyline.
Also agree with Jkay..more character-driven, less plot-driven..all the other characters would also benefit from this. Probably even Vanessa and people would probably like her more. Although she's more of a supporting role rather than a protagonist, we hardly know anything about her so everything about her just seems really contradictory.

What can I say? The Writers are sucks... Season 1 is way more awesome.. The writers are too focus to Chair.. that's true.. seem like they use Chair-shipper who always pop up in internet as a parameter.. Which is ridiculous.. They think if they focus on Chair, that will make GG ratings going up. They wrong.

Blair: You say I always bet against you. Not this time. I'm all in.
