They Shoot Humphreys, Don't They? (Season 3)
I thought this episode was terrific. Like people have been saying, of course -- no where near as brilliant as S1. But! I felt like there were echoes of S1 and, more specifically, echoes of "Hi, Society," one of my favorite GG episodes. It was just a fun episode to watch. A good balance of drama and humor; although, I do wish I had stayed away from spoilers. The threesome would have been more exciting if I didn't know about it (and if I didn't know who was participating in it).
Nate, despite being a sort of prop in this episode, was also very funny. I loved the little bit where he was walking into the ballroom and the camera was zoomed in on his shoes and girls were swooning and there was awesome suave-guy music on in the background. Amazing. Also, hungover Nate = so great.
It wasn't a perfect episode, though. I still can't really get into Jenny's "Queen" storyline, perhaps because I just don't understand it. I should be happy that Jenny actually has a plot, but I can't. I have a serious inability to even like Jenny -- because of her hair. I can't stand her yucky, dry, fake hair. I liked it much, much better in S1 and the very first episodes of S2. (Also -- and this is pretty awful/shallow of me -- I was watching this in HD yesterday, and Jenny had like a cold sore or something, and I just got kind of turned off.)
Well, yay. It was finally a satisfying Monday night! I hope next week is good, although I'm very concerned about this Lady Gaga thing.
so that red dress blair wore at the cotillion? sorry but i LOVE IT. they have one similar at nordstroms for like 3,000! of course! anybody seen anything similar?? i have a formal coming up and would die to be in something like it!
PS the cotillion practice in season 1 was at a really swanky place. Why was it so much less classy now? The practice was in a WAREHOUSE or something? And the cotillion itself wasn't as classy. Sigh.
Just goes to show that Blair took all the sophistication with her
Cotillion is supposed to be a fancy event, and yet this Cotillion felt like a high school prom.
Seriously, a song about being a bitch, much less spelling it out? I loved the Plastiscines but where is Grandma CeCe?! She'd never allow it! Same with Lily, who was supposed to be organizing this event. Not that the baby debs didn't look beautifiul...it just...lacked.
In my previous post about the lack of a threesome I must sound so perverted. I didn't even really WANT O, V, and D to do it, but if Stephanie says it's going to be racy...I guess I just wanted it to live up to expectations. Hands over my eyes and all.
Agreed. As someone on a different web site put it, Lily let Jenny out of the houe in THAT? Shouldn't it have been more...GRACEFUL or something?
The threesome was cool! haha I like tried to cover my eyes but I wanted to see it! haha
1) Threesome wasn't what I expected, but it wasn't as awful as people are saying it was. I'm reserving judgement on this one until we get flashbacks from next week's episode.
2) Jenny is really stepping into her role as Queen Bee quite well! This is one of my favourite GG storylines, especially since it's been building up since S1. She's obviously going to have just as many problems as Blair though with gaining/keeping the respect of her minions and being dethroned/losing face. No matter how hard J tries, she'll always be from Brooklyn ;p
3) The cover of 'Whatever You Like' by Anya Marina was AMAZING. Where and how they used it was impeccable. It's only available on iTunes, AFAIK
One of my favourite episodes not only this season, but of the series. While we might complain about the focus not being on Cotillion more (or how Cotillion seemed lacking), it's really because J is the only one with a big role in the event. B and S were only mentors, and I have no idea why N was there in the first place.
Hi, just an info: Mr. Van der Woodsen will be present in next episode? Thanks!
I'm just plain happy that Blair & Serena FINALLY talked the way they did, like heart-to-heart, the way they did in Season 1 where Blair read out the letter she wrote but never sent to Serena. And, we FINALLY get a bit of Chuck's bad boy side, especially with his line "If you two would like to kiss, it wouldn't count as cheating." I MISS THIS CHUCK! :D
The threesome wasn't that bad, as much as I am not a Hilary Duff fan, and it would be interesting to see now how things would be since Olivia is staying. Woo. :)
I actually like Jenny, and for this episode, especially at the part where she was watching the dance rehersal from the video at the back and practicing, she felt so much more human. It was amazing how she told Blair off with the whole "Your era is over, and so is that headband." FINALLY, someone wakes Blair up that she's no longer in high school anymore, and should stop trying to run high school when she's supposed to be more of an adult now. What Blair should do is glam up herself for college and FIT IN there the way a gorgeous Blair would be able to. I mean, it's NOT that hard as long as she can finally realise that there's no such thing as a "Queen" in college -- but there IS such a thing as a highly social girl. :) And Blair could easily be one. Plus, even Chuck outgrew his scarf, the headband is so highschool. I like Leighton with her curls set sexy. :)
So yes, way to go for Jenny on that! Hopefully, Blair would wake up now. I would like to see Blair get it on with college, and hit popularity there instead of having everyone in the school pretty much turned off by her and completely disliking her. :( But, she IS maturing with how she could at least push Chuck off a little with her evening with Serena. Season 3 made me pretty tired of Chair, and finally we see a little bit of being harder to get and that's what makes Chair interesting.
This episode is freakin awesome!
