I don't think Ausiello is refering to literally burying a lead character. Burying the lede actually means: To begin a story with details of secondary importance to the reader while postponing more essential points or facts. Question is what does he mean by that? That Dan's confession of feelings is actually a secondary story to the more important death that will follow??
