What do you think why were the ratings so poor?? Are people bored the GG ??? And if they do why??

i think the ratings are poor cuz:

    a) TOO many spoilers - ruins the suprise

    b) the Valley Girls episode was not extremlty great so ppl might not bother to watch

    c) internet ratings dont count much otherwise GG would win :)

    d) maybe loads of ppl got togther and watched it

I think it's because of the spoilers, and that mostly people dont watch from their TVs anymore.

    I think it is because:

    • Plenty of the Chair fans gave up after episode 16 and unfortunately the rest of the season didn't bring them back.  I personally was not a fan of Chuck "the coward" SL which is what we saw for the rest of the season until the very end.
    • The Prom episode was too short and the Nate/Blair break up was abrupt resulting in the reasons for their whole getting back together in the first place confusing.  Probably many Nair fans gave up after this.
    • Too many loose ends to tie up in the finale and many of them were either rushed through or ignored.

I dont really consider the ratings because it is on the cw and the cw always has the lowest ratings. There are a lot of people who watch it online. It gets an average of like 2.4 million viewers per new episode, which isn't bad, but I was suprised to learn that Smallville & Supernatural get more views. But I dont think it will cause them to not have a fourth season because the CW doesn't really care..

i agree wholeheartedly with what MC said.

call me crazy but i also think a lot of die hard chair shippers kind of gave up after the vanessa thing. it's not 'proven' but i've had soooooooooooooooooooo many people tell me that they were done after that point.

but other than just chair, season two seemed to be all about chuck. we saw chuck go from mere player to the main event. and as much as majority of us like him, not everyone is a chuck fan. so i can see people giving up when it seemed like chuck was getting all the good storylines. which he was.

season two was also about change. there were characters who seemed to do very out of character type things. for example, i was a die hard serena fan in season one and in the novels. now? not so much. i wasn't a fan of bitch serena in the start of season 2. she's not meant to be bitchy or overly (annoyingly) rebellious. the desperately seeking serena episode appalled me to no end. i felt like she were being unfair to blair in all her attitude and anger. in my opinion, if she wanted to go at blair she should have done it when she first came back. i got pissed off that my affections completely flip flopped. i thought blair was supposed to be the irrational one? the girl we loved to hate? i found serena pathetic. and sadly, serena's ooc didn't stop there.

i must have missed the part where serena became obnoxious, rebellious and completely self centered. it's like a different girl all together and her personality became as much askewed as her revealing clothing. i became pissed off that the writers made me lose so much love for my former favorite character because they didn't bother to at least make her consistent with who she started out to be in season one. i'm all about change.. but how do you have a character come back and swear to be all about change but then have her become tens times worse as time progresses?

the dan and serena thing pissed me off too. i got tired of it. season one with them was golden, but season two made them less and less relevant. it made no sense to have dan break up with her because he couldn't deal with the fact that she really wasn't who he thought she was. he loved the idea of who she was instead of the real person. but yeah, how do you break up with a girl for that reason but then go on to date a teacher?

i actually understood why dan did it, and i kind of don't blame him. he was being a teenage boy, but aside from just me and my outcasted opinions, a lot of my dan fan friends just HATED the hell out of him during that point and stopped watching as well.

Jenny fans didn't get a lot of love this season, because it seemed she was barely in it. so naturally, if there's a block of epis she's not even a part of or hold no real significance to the episode, they most likely wouldn't want to tune in.

vanessa.. don't get me started on that bitch lol.

but umm other than that.. the season seemed heavily one sided, poorly written to boot and just plain weird. i don't think it has anything to do with the spoilers or the pictures. to me that's the best part of the gossip girl experience. if they stepped it up and put forth more thought into the charries and instill something in them, i have no doubt the ratings would turn around.

Maybe because it was on during Dancing with the Stars and 24? because it's on the CW and not on one of the major networks? hell, are the viewers from Canada even counted, from the night before(it's on a pretty major Canadian network in the most populated area here), this also doesn't count online and iTunes views and such.

Regardless, 2.24 million is good for GG anyway.

i think the shitty writin for the 2nd season only plays a little part for the poor ratings. i agree that so many things went array for s2. most of the characters went through drastic changes. jenny went from this little girl who wanted to b in the "in" crowd to some punk rocker type of chick, serena went to a sweet girl tryna get back in to a bitch to a slut, dan was this nice boy from brooklyn who had a crush on serena, then some guy who f*cks with alot of chicks (summer kind of wonderful) to bangin teachers, and nate jus turned into a complete manwhore. the only characters who stayed consistant was eric, blair and chuck. even with fans mad at all those changes and the crappy s2 script i dont think real fans gave up so easily on it. i thnk it has a lot to do with ppl watchin it online and in groups. personally i was so disappointed wit this season (soooooooo disappointed) but it didnt stop me and my friends gettin together at my apartment to tune in every monday at 7pm.
