The NJBC takes absolutely nothing away from Dan, Dair, or Date... he just has a different kind of friendship with them than they have with each other. Doesn't mean that Dan is a bad person or that he hasn't grown very close to Nate, and it doesn't mean that he doesn't love Blair. It's actually realistic and healthy for Blair and Dan to have friendships and relationships and interactions with other people.
Nobody was arguing anything different to this though. Dan/Dair/Date weren't even mentioned. It was just assumed we didn't really feel the njbc was real because we like Dan or because we apparently aren't real long-term fans who don't understand the show's history. I don't use refuse to see the njbc as a group because I like Dan, I don't see them as a group because IMO the writers don't show them as a group doing what they say the njbc do. Like ever. IMO of course.
Elise, if the NJBC didn't exist, if it were just about Blerena and Chate, the default setting of these four after they've stopped dating would be not to interact at all. But Serenate have gone from their fling at the Shepherd wedding, to being friends and partners in crime in early season 2 (best shown in 2x01), to dating in season 3, to being part of a (silly) triangle in season 4, to being coworkers and going back and forth in season 5. Nair have gone from being childhood sweethearts, to broken up bitterly, to a season 2 friendship, then dating again, and since graduation have been friends.
And I won't discuss my Chair here, but yes, even Chair were actually friends. And someday, Chair will be friends again, all ships, relationships, endgames, etc. aside. It's not just that Chuck needs Blair in his life; Blair needs him, too. She also needs Serena and Nate.
I just love this awesome foursome! What I wouldn't give for a pre-canon flashback to when they were little... hey, writers, if the NJBC is really fanservice, then serve me that!
I also enjoyed the Brooklyn crew and sympathized with them a lot, but fans haaaaated Jenny and Vanessa. I miss them and feel the show is less without them. The Brooklyn teens/young adults provided a good balance to the characters born/reared on the UES.
some NJBC pics :)
Scenes just keep coming back to mind... half of the NJBC, Serenate, decided to get Chuck to talk to his fake mother (Elizabeth). The other half, Chair, weren't too happy about this.
Then there was the time in season 5, when 3/4s of the NJBC wanted to go help Blair... Chuck, Nate and Serena ran into Georgina instead:
Blair doesn't really trust chuck anymore, or she didn't in 5x19. Its not one person straying, they all have lost touch with what was awesome about them in that one episode back in the first season, so at this point i just don't know why chair fans talk about how great they still are... ((( you want to talk about trust? I don't think you notice but in this episode proves that Dan doesn't trust Blair just like Nate and Louis did not. Bloat will learn to trust chuck again in the upcoming episode and then she will get back with so I think that will destroy your argument about Blair not trusting chuck. And FYI chuck and Blair can be great together but you just fail to see it.))Read more: http://www.tvfanatic.com/forum/gossip-girl/general-discussion/you-do-not-fuck-with-them/page-9.html#ixzz1rmUmRdvg
This has absolutley nothing to do with dan and blair, are you that obsessed with your own chair agenda that that one part was all you took from my post and then decided to do dair vs chair? if you payed attention to the post i listed all the things that these friends have done to eachother in the past season and that is why i fail to see the praise of the NJBC that everyone is giving right now. I said i loved the scene when they established it back in season one but since then they have lost touch with that. it had zero to with dan so get over yourself...
I agree that they aren't doing so great right now, but I hope they all come together like in the S1 finale because they're just great together, even though they've definitely had their problems!
