I agree, Mer said what Der needed to listen. She could not love him because he wouldn’t love himself without being a surgeon. He’s destroyed and he would be destroyed forever if he didn’t come back. She would not be loving him if she let him quit. And she loves him too much to allow this.
And the Chief was great. “I’m older. I was drunk for years.”

That was a really powerful episode.
I loved the final Meredith and Derek scene. I read his 'I love you' as his apology for last week and her 'I know' as her forgiving him and understanding what he was going through. I think her honesty got him thinking about the gift that he has - she couldn't respect someone who isone of 20 people in the world who can save Izzie. Go Meredith - really strong and brave. Good move, because as we saw... he couldn't help but pick up those scans and look at them...
It was good to see Richard stand up to Derek, and to see Derek's rage - really intense scenes and great to watch!
I also loved the scene with Cristina and Izzie at the end, and when all the residents were admitting her, it was such a moving scene.
I can't wait for next week and watch Izzie's story unfold and to watch Derek come back ..

When Mer said that she wouldn't love him if he was a surgeon, I am so happy that she said that. If she didn't she would have been lying, and derek would never get over it and they would be living in this horrible bubble. Now hopefully everything will be better. I agree with you Mari - the I love you from derek was saying sorry and the I know from Mer was forgiving him. What I think will happen is that der will have a successful surgery with Izzie and then from eleation he'll propose to mer in the elevator :) One can hope

the question is: is Izzie gonna die anyway? you know i don't want her to, but at greys everything is possible... and i know that now it looks like Derek's gonna save her, she's gonna live and everything's gonna be ok again... but at greys when's something looked like it's been gonna happen it hasn't... maybe it will be Izzie's death what brings Derek back :-(

This episode of Greys...has to be my all time favorite! I love it, I cried, I laughed and I was serious for a bit. I view some stuff on this forum after the episodes and I thought I had to join this group and talk about the best show on TV...Grey's Anatomy!
I really loved the Mer/Der scene at the end. Mer is really strong for telling him she could love him if he wasn't a surgeon...maybe that coupled with what the chief said can bring him back...
WTH is up with the interns?..I admit they have to have their moment in the spotlight..but a love triangle? and who would have thought that it would be Pierce and Steve??!?
The story unfolding with Izzie, really touched me, from the episode before this one, I thought she really had a lot of strength to go through with patient x, having the interns criticze her and stuff...and then the diagnosis..
the writers have done a really fantastic job!...I really miss McDreamy...he is the original, I hate seeing him so down...but its a plus, more McSteamy..lol

Yeah what was that about with the interns? Honestly, I don't know any of their names except for Lexie! haha I was a bit boggled last night was when Lexie publicly made out with her boss.. lol
about Izzie.. I don't think Derek will be the cause of her dying.. because then he'd really leave and never come back. But it's an unfortunate thing about Izzie.. I don't know what to expect.. I guess we'll have to wait and see :'(

For me Heigl is definitevely leaving the show it is doubtful that she would survive the metastic spreading she is too young. Bailey was great the unknown interns story was a waste of time. Dempsey's part was great acting. So far I never found the magic of season 1 and 2.

So, I must admit that I am a bit disappointed by the episode. We saw too much of Izzie, and don't get me wrong, I like Izzie, but I don't know, I felt like the whole episode was about her. I am disappointed by the mer/der scene. I wanted her to say "I love you too", because she really never says it, it's frustrating!! But after reading your comments, I feel better, because I agree that she had to say that she wouldn't love him if he wasn't a surgeon; it was the only way to make him react. And I absolutely loved the chief/derek scene. It was heartbreaking. For next episode, please, more mer/der!!!!Posted 3/20/2009 12:02:13 PM #

i really liked this episode. its definately the best this season so far, and it might be the best one in the series so far as well!

That was a great episode i loved the fact that bailey sent callie and owen to get derek back and they end up staying there. the interns were also quite funny. I don't believe cristina told baliey and alex just before her solo surgery. I liked derek and richards talk. Bloody loved the merder scene I mean derek has told meredith that he loves her before but never like that and then meredith telling derek about izze
Seroulsy can't wait for next episode as i think derek proposes and has his first surgey i will be intresing to see how alex copes with Izze now dieing.
