I was just reading the new allure and found out how many people just mainly HATE Ellen Pompeo! How can all those people be so hateful? even since she just got engaged.

Hi McDreamylover and briaNnA. I have to join Rose and Didi in this conversation of a while back. I love history, too. When you think about it, history is just a story. It is full of drama, romance, sacrifice. There are good guys and bad guys and all kinds of surprises. If you read it like you would a good book, it is fascinating. Think about the Dark ages. The time of princesses and knights, men battling over land and honor. Fair maidens in distress. Knights battling to save them. Think about the lowly stable boy in love with the daughter of the Lord and how they both had to sacrifice because the code of conduct at the time wouldn't let them be together. I had a Modern World Civilization teacher in college who was so great. He was like an actor on a stage. When he talked about the Renaissance, you would have sworn he was Italian. We learned about the great artists and scientists. It was the start of the enlightenment, you guys. How exciting is that. Then we shifted to France and the time of the kings named Louis. You would have sworn he was French. He started to look French. You could feel the beginnings of the revolution when he talked. You could completely understand where the people were coming from and why there had to be a change. Then he taught us about England and the Victorian era and the Elizabethean era and you were so proud to be a woman and you understood how much they sacrificed because of their duty to their country. All of it is a giant story and the best part is tht it is our story. It is how we came to be exactly where we are. I love history. I want to learn more about Asia and Africa, South America, and Mexico. I don't know nearly enough about Canadian history and Canada is our neighbor. Sometimes the best way to learn history is to read novels that take place in the time period because you learn history in spite of yourself. One book that I loved when I was 14 was a book called Katherine. It is by Anya Seton and is about this beautiful mistress of John of Gault in England. It is a classic story about a commoner and a nobleman and their love for each other that could not be contained even by the social rules of the time. It is so romantic and is historical fiction, which basically means that we know it is based in fact even if the words and events depicted in the story are made up. So, when you are talking about a period in history, whether it is US or World, try to find a novel that takes place at that period in time and read it. It will make all the rest interesting, too. I might be able to help you find a book, if you tell me what you are studying. But, if not, if you go to your library and tell them what period in time you would like to read about, the librarian will suggest books for you that are exciting, romantic, and fun to read that will at the same time help you understand what was happening in history at the time.

McDreamyLover. I agree. I hate the way the press portrays Ellen Pompeo. She just seems so natural and like a person I would really like to know if I had the chance. Did you notice when she was on Oprah how much more comfortable she was when the focus was on how great Izzie was in the Denny-dying scene, or when the conversation was about whether or not Cristina really loved Burke or was using him for the good surgeries. Ellen was articulate and warm and really supportive of her castmates. Before that, when the focus was on Meredith and Derek, she seemed uncomfortable and not as natural. I think she just doesn't like to talk about herself, but was really there for her castmates. I really like her and I love the character of Meredith. I don't understand the animosity towards her either. It's kind of like I don't understand the animosity towards Isaiah Washington. Folks like us out here in TVland don't know these people. We really shouldn't be so judgmental.
