Found this video where Ellen Pompeo says she won't be renewing her contract. I'm sure this has been said and/or posted but just in case.

im not a mer fan , iam a callie mark AZ fan but since this s grey's anatomy, Mer should be there or just make a season finale and start a new show, coz it cant be a Calzona gay show or a Mallie show though i'd super love it!! or cristina,,,bla bla....and plz dont tell me lexie grey not coz i hate her but coz it wont work, her name cant come first now.

Ellen Pompeo will be at Grey's Anatomy's season 8. She just 'said that her contract ends at season 8. Now if the show continues for a season 9 she doesn't know if she will be there... But I hope that they won't make Grey's Anatomy without Mer...

If they continue the show without ellen i'll try to watch it but if it becomes anything like scrubs without sarah and zach i'll only watch a few clips on youtube if i don't balle right away.
If it becomes Calzona anatomy i'll never watch that in my lifetime! Only if Ellen and Patrick guest star in one or two episodes like zack and sarak did

If they continue it and give equal screen time to every character without being callie's hour on endless winning i think i can handle it. I love Lexie Cristina and April so i'd be watching it more for them. I used to love Alex but since he decided to rat Meredith out he moved to my dark list.

It's not a secret that Ellen Pompeo plans on leaving after the 8th season so I think it's really about how the show should proceed when she's gone. I have nothing against Callie and Arizona but I don't want the show to focus on them. If anything, it would be quite ironic if it centered more on Lexie just so it keeps with the whole "Grey's" Anatomy concept. I think the show can make it without Meredith considering they know how to develop the other characters better and not to center it solely on Callie and Arizona because we've seen how a lot of fans haven't been too pleased with how they've taken a lot of the attention this season.

Caitlyn; apologies in advance; but quit dreaming. If there is no Meredith Grey, the show's over. So who ever posted earlier that Ellen's contract was up at the end of season 8 and it has not been renewed yet, sorry I forget who that was. Anyway, fans I think we should all pray that Ellen renews the contract and ABC pick the series up for Season 9, because if Ellen leaves and does not renew her contract, then ABC will drop the show. It's all about ratings, and ratings have come down since this show premiered, not risen. If ABC don't think they can sell the series to their audience with the character of Meredith Grey, then that's it people; Grey's is finished. And I would really be pissed with that outcome.

I think Shonda loses a big audience group if Ellen leaves because then Patrick also leaves and the women loooove Paddy BELIVE ME! Shonda knows this so I just don´´t think with all the new shows she does that Greys will continue after s8 and that quite franky makes me happy!!! Would be so good to stop at their peak with the whole acting team. LOL Lexie or Arizona and callie could never continue greys without the original Grey, she´s like the mother of al mothers now. LOOOVE IT!!

Ellen Pompeo's made it pretty clear that season 8 is her last one. I know the show won't be the same without her and Patrick Dempsey but that doesn't mean that they won't try to keep the show on. I honeslty think that Shonda Rhimes will continue the show despite their absence and ABC will still pick the show up. Despite their average ratings, Grey's Anatomy remains to be a show with a strong fan base and ABC knows that. They'll probably give the show a season to see if they can go on without Meredith because the network believes in Shonda Rhimes a lot as seen through all the shows which she creates and they pick up.

To lose both Ellen and Patrick convinces me even more that the writing is on the wall when it comes to whether Grey's will survive. Perhaps Shonda will get ABC to pick it up for a season 9; but ratings will drop drastically when McDreamy and MEr are no longer on our screens.
It would however be good to see the show end on a high note, however it was my hope that we would at least get to see Mer, Christina, Alex, April and Jackson make it as attendings. For it to end on a high note, I personally think another season without Ellen and Patrick is a mistake, and chances are the show will be cancelled mid way through the season, leaving the fans with no closure at all, which would totally suck.
