Inconsistencies in the plot/background

   Hi all,

   Have been reading here for ages, but firstly now coming around to register.

   I was watching episode 1.04 the other day and noticed something I've never thought of before. It's the episode where Liz Fallon is admitted to the hospital to die from her pancreatic cancer. She tells Richard that she has been Ellis's scrub nurse for eighteen years (and still never have met her daughter once). At the same time, it's obvious she has been working at Seattle Grace her whole life. But Ellis moved from Seattle when she had finished her residency. In general surgery, the residency is five years, so she can't have spent much more time than that at SGH before she moved to Boston. That doesn't add up? Elllis can't have been 18 years at SGH, yet Nurse Fallon has been her scrub nurse for that long.

   Do you have an explanation for this, something I missed? Or is it really a big gap in the plot/background?

   Also, in the same episode, Meredith shows Ellis an old photo album in hope that she will remember something from their time together. She says 'I think these are taken at the old house'. What does she mean by 'old' here? Old house as in opposite to the new one in Boston? (which would be pretty obvious since it's a pic of Thatcher too) Or old as in opposite to a newer house they had in Seattle after that? Or just a generally old house they were happening to stand outside in that picture? Or am I overanalyzing this? ;-)

   What do you say? Would be interesting to hear your thought on this! If you have other plot holes or inconsistencies, use this thread if you like :)

   I always wonder about the age difference between Lexie and Meredith. Thatcher left Ellis when Mer was five; adding at least a year before Lexie could be born (for him to meet his second wife and her pregnancy) that makes 6 years of age difference. However, Lexie's only one year younger carreer-wise than her sister (she's a second year resident, Mer's third). Adding a margin of two years (we know Lexie skipped third grade and Mer had a gap year before going to med school when she travelled through Europe) that still makes too small difference. It was once mentioned that Lexie was 24. Izzie, at the same time was 29 - Mer must be around the same (although it was stated that it took longer for Izzie to graduate than for her friends... So she should be older than them). I'm confused:)

   Yes, that's one of the things I'm confused about to. Cristina was 28 when she was pregnant and miscarried, which was in season 2 when they were interns. Izzie was 29 in season 5 when they were second year residents. George was 29 when he died, which I guess is the same year. So the three of them should be at the same age. Sadie at the other hand was 30. Are we supposed to think she and Meredith are at the same age since they went to college together? That would make it 6 years between her and Meredith. Logically, it should have taken Thatcher longer than one year to find Susan and get her pregnant (unless he hadn't an affair with Susan before he split with Ellis, that is), so I'm guessing there is seven or eight years between them, but there is no hints in the show that we can conclude this from. You're right that it's strange that Lexie graduated only a year under Meredith, no matter how good she is, the advance of at the least four years that Mer has would be hard to take in on. I'm guessing time line holes here :-)

   Another inconsistency:

   In one of the Season 1 episodes, Bailey says she was the only female intern in her year. In "Time Warp" it shows her standing with a few other female interns.
