     Ah! You're right! That is very much not his mother. I think it must be a flashback or something though. That picture is listed as being from the first episode, and pictures from the second episode (on greys-media) show Burke still in the hospital.

     In addition: a.) Derek, in pictures from the same episode, was wearing his red shirt. He mentioned to Meredith that when she met him, he was wearing his red shirt, implying flashback b.) Meredith is wearing the dress George described in great detail in the first episode- also indicating flashback c.) Addison is nowhere in sight, and yet every other character- including a happy Izzie- is. Conclusion: Defenite flashback.
