Can someone here explain to me Season 3, because I don't get it.

I've been watching season 3 and I don't get what in the hell was the problem between Mer and Der. I especially don't get what did Derek wanted from Meredith, exactly. They were in a relationship, they weren't getting married right away which is okay, I didn't see the need to rush, they were almost living together. I mean how could Derek want more, and how could he expect Meredith to give him more, if in less than a year a bunch bad things happened to them. They were together, what else did Derek wanted? Yes maybe Meredith didn't share every detail of her daily life with Derek, but who does? Every time Meredith didn't react the way he wanted, he would walk away. Like when Meredith's dad slap her, and then she went home and drank tequila with Alex and Izzie, and Derek saw them through the window, then he walked away. What did Derek expected to find, in that moment? Why didn't Derek walk in and drank with them? Or in the finale, when Derek told her that she was constantly leaving him, that she didn't leave her friends. When did Meredith leave Derek exactly? She didn't break up with him at no moment in season 3 until the season finale after that conversation in the locker room. Or when Meredith just finished the intern exam and he asked her how she did and Meredith just walked pass him, what did Derek wanted to know exactly? So I don't get what did Derek meant when he said that Meredith leave him all the time, when in my opinion she never did. I got Meredith side of things, I got why she was the way she was, and understood that and actually sympathize with it. But I don't get Derek in season 3, especially by the end of season 3. Why was Derek rushing things? What was the rush? Finally when did Derek ask Meredith anything, directly, without hesitation asked Meredith anything? When did that happen, and the conversation in the finale doesn't count because that wasn't asking anything. I find season 3 very frustrating, the first time I saw it which wasn't when it aired the first time, I didn't really find it frustrating but now, boy I don't get why the men in season 3 acted the way they acted. All of them were idiots, maybe except for Alex.Posted 6/22/2010 2:03:13 PM #

Two explanations:
- The writers were on crack through most of S3.
- The characters have to be destroyed in order to be rebuilt and be awesome.
To me, everyone was a mess on S3, both men and women. No one is above the other. Well, except Bailey. She's above all of them.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Meredith ran away from Derek when he tried to comfort her after her dad slap her? To me, it seemed that Meredith clearly didn't want Derek to be there at that moment. So, why should have he gone inside and drink with Alex and Izzie if she didn't want him there? That's the vibe I got (most likely Derek did too). She also told him she didn't want him at the funeral. What do you make of that?
About the intern exam...I think he wanted to know how she did. Isn't that what you ask after an exam? (I hate that question but at least I answer it even if I messed it up). She walked away from him. That's what he meant.
I want to ask what do you mean by rushing things? What was he rushing? I think he was stuck. His dream job wouldn't be his because of his girlfriend, who had drowned and accused him of hovering. Didn't have so much of friends. The Chief was giving him the great bad advices he gives. I think he just wanted to know where they stood.
I think Derek had a point but hell, Gizzie was starting, that tainted the whole show there so I stopped paying that much attention.
I like Meredith but didn't really feel her motives post-drowning. Couldn't tell if she was just being whiny or had an actual problem. (I know she had one but that's what the show made it seem to me). So I took Derek's side. He made more sense than Meredith.
S3 was the biggest disaster for all characters after S4 (except the last few episodes), which proves my first theory: the writers were on crack. Or something similar.

Oh, don't take the timeline as an actual factor. This show never does.

Season 3 was a disaster after the drowning! The writers were a mess. And for me poor cast especially Patrick and Ellen. They deserved so much better.
Even EP said that she didn't understand the SL post drowning. She said after her it was like Meredith and Derek's chance, after all she came back for him! I also think Derek suffered some sort of depression after it and the writers didn't explain it and ignore it, instead they focused on Gizzie *puke*.

I miss George but I'll never forgive the writers for Gizzie. That just fueled my hate for Izzie. Not cool SR.

Season 3 pissed me off, I could never watched that season again at least not completely only bit and pieces. When I first saw season 3 I didn't get Derek, but now I do, however I still don't agree with him and the way he handle Merediht back then. Is like he wasn't able to understand Mer, to me it was like he wanted Meredith to get over her issues and move on, when her issues were complicated and she couldn't just get over them and move on.
Derek is black and white type of person, the type that wants all or nothing. Derek didn't do the middle ground or bit a pieces. He wanted all of Meredith or no Meredith, not just bit and pieces. Meredith was only able to give him pieces of her, because she wasn't whole, but Derek wasn't satified with it. It was very frustuating to see Derek not getting that Meredith was dark and twisted and that she handled things differently that he did or even the people he knew did. Derek was used to sweep over his issues and move on, thinking that he dealt with his issues. On the other hand, Meredith knew what her issues were but avoided solving her issues, because she didn't know how to (thank god for Dr. Wyatt) I think Derek made Meredith feel bad about the fact that she was dark and twisted, because for Derek handling things the way Meredith handled her issues wasn't right, becaue he is a black and white person, an all or nothing person. Season 3 Derek would've never shown up to the prison when Meredith went to see the serial killer execution, because season 3 Derek would've thought that Mer going to see Serial killer execution was wrong, (the writer words in the blod not mines.)
Now after finding out that Derek witnessed his father murder, I think Derek is even more mess up than Meredith, because he has daddy issues, but he thinks his over those issues, but he is not.

Lexie: Mark, I'm dying. Please tell Meredith I love her and that she is a good sister.
