Not to say that I agree with it (just the opposite, actually), but I can kind of understand why Callie went to Sloan for help.  He's her "person", and it just so happens that the best way he could help her in this particular situation was by "doing".  (I just hope Erica never finds out about it....though chances are she will.)  And I think the reason Callie broke up with Erica when their first time wasn't good was because Callie is the kind of person/doctor who is good at almost everything, especially sex, and it took her a while to realize that she might actually have to work on this relationship with Erica.  And I think she's still a little scared about being with a woman.

I really hope this relationship works out.  Erica and Callie are adorable together and the actresses have such good chemistry together.  Also, that look on Erica's face when Callie told her she couldn't do this anymore - she looked like she was going to cry, and I really don't want her to have to look like that again.  I know they'll have their troubles, just like every other couple on the show, but that doesn't mean they can't work out.

I too hope the writers keep the Callie/Erica relationship going.  I think it's really important for the world to actually see a same sex relationship on TV.  I know it means a lot to my friends and my brother (yes he's gay, I'm straight).  Where I'm from it is very rare for the topic of homosexuality to be included in any local shows.

Fingers crossed they keep this going to show those homophobic people out there that everyone deserves love no matter what their sexuality.

(sorry just had to add my bit)

First of all, Callie and Erica - not the first same sex couple on TV.  Ellen's sitcom, The L Word, Xena: Warrior Princess, Queer as Folk, South of Nowhere - not to mention the countless lesbians that have been featured on reality TV shows - heck, the GLBTQXYZ community even has their own channel!!!

Secondly, Sloane, as the writer in her blog said, is Callie's "person."  I have both a male and female "person" and while I would never hesitate to discuss sexual issues with either of the two, I would never ask them to show me how to have sex!  Callie ran away after ONE TIME!  Who had amazing sex, gay or straight, their first time?!  Part of the fun is learning how to please the other person and improving.  Callie took the easy way out and from the previews it looks like her little "teaching session" with Sloane isn't going to end there.  Again, as much as I want Callica to happen, I just don't see it *believably* continuing after this past episode and the previews I've seen.

Sorry, I wasn't inferring or implying that they are the first lesbian/gay couple on TV.  I was just saying it's good to see what I perceive to be a somewhat honest representation of a same sex couple on TV.  (Maybe not the part about her running to Sloane)

Baylor I agree with you , I wouldn't be running to my people to ask them how to show me sex.  I agree totally that part of the fun is learning how to improve with the person you care about totally.

If Erica ever finds about about her 'testing a theory with Mark' it will either spell a massive FIGHT that they'll eventually figure out but as it was said before Callie should be talking to Erica as well as Sloane or maybe just Erica.

Baylor and Concerned..., I agree whole-heartedly. I will say this: Grey's Anatomy is perhaps the first show with a lesbian relationship that reaches an audience of such large numbers; The L Word and other shows don't boast a fan base like Grey's with millions of viewers and a top selling episode on each week on iTunes. (Not to mention the fact actors and actresses have won multiple awards for their performances on the show.)

I'll throw my prediction in the ring: Callie winds up with Mark, and Erica, burned, winds up as the love interest of Melissa George's upcoming character. I can't say that I'm happy with the way the writers are foiling the Callica relationship--they're reinforcing stereotypes we, the gay community, have worked so hard to eliminate. Shonda Rhimes and the writers are reported to have worked closely with GLAAD, but I can't imagine GLAAD suggested Callie repeatedly cheat on Erica with Mark. I've yet to meet someone from the gay community who's attempted to vindicate the decisions of the writers.

To say Mark is Callie's person and thus goes to him for sex coaching is ludicrous! How can the writer state that as justification for Callie's actions? I guess Addison could have tried that line with Derek: "Honey, Mark is my friend, I needed advice on how to best have sex with you." That's a bit too farfetched an idea for anyone to buy. Fess up the reason you wrote that scene, don't create a fantastical scenario to satisfy the audience.

"There's no 'I' in team", I believe, undoubtedly foreshadows the end of Callica and we fans will wind up with yet another volatile relationship on Grey's Anatomy.

I either heard or read somewhere that Shonda did say she wasn't going to make it easy for Erica and Callie.  I guess this week is 'not easy' part.  I don't really want them to break up or to cut their relationship short.  I do agree with another post somewhere that maybe when Melissa George comes in and if she does hook up with Erica that Callie might start to realise what she is missing out on with being with Erica best friend??  Then starts a love triangle, I guess it's a matter of trying to be patient and see what the writers have in store!!

You are exactly right McSmarty!  GA does reach a MUCH larger fan base than any of the other shows I listed, and they're making the Callica story a central story line, not something silly on the periphery of the show.  The writers, in one episode, have blown the amazing opportunity they had to portray a realistic lesbian relationship.

When I first heard the rumblings of a lesbian couple, I figured GA, like other shows, was only throwing in a "freak show" for ratings.

When they first started the relationship, I couldn't have been happier.  The fast, close friendship, the casual flirty-ness and then slowly the realization that something is different.  The being scared, the questioning.  The trying to be "normal."  It was all portrayed so well and spoke so truly to lesbians remembering the moment they realized and their first crush.  Okay, maybe not everyone tried to be "normal," but I did, and I don't think its unbelievable for Callie to start sleeping with Mark every chance she gets to try and convince herself that she likes men.  And when they kissed finally at the end of last season, I got butterflies in my stomach for them!

This season started and the writers still did a great job.  The nervousness and being afraid of messing up.  I love that Callie was being flighty and Erica was just very calm and reassuring to her.  Its almost like they're writing Erica as a long-time lesbian as opposed to a first-time lesbian (for lack of better words to describe this).  They communicated, they took it slow, the really developed the characters and the relationship.  I mean, Callie even came out to Bailey!  Last week ended with me telling my friends that Callie and Erica were the only couple that had a normal, healty relationship on the show.

Then that disaster of an episode last week!  UGH!  I don't care about stereotypes - they exist for a reason - to be honest this doesn't even remind me of one of the countless lesbian stereotypes (maybe a bisexual stereotype?)  I'm beyond disgusted - and you're right, how in the world could GLAAD have approved this?!  I mean, not only does it scream that a woman can't please another woman without help from a man, but its just STUPID!  If Callie was still in her scared, trying not to be gay/bi phase - her behavior wouldn't upset me.  But she's not!!

Great job GA writers!  You choked on the national stage!  You failed at writing a meaningful lesbian relationship and instead you might as well be writing about one of your in-passing, patient storylines thats more for shock value.
