Christina is too cocky about the whole thing and she just came back, so even though she's an amazing doctor, I don't think it will be her.
Alex seems like the obvious answer, and though we've seen him develop tremendously as a doctor, I don't think he has the attitude necessary like Meredith.
Meredith, although kind of the underdog, seems most worthy to me. Think of the shooting. She is able to get herself and everybody else through traumatic experiences come hell or high water. Alex is great, but he's too emotional and rash. Christina actually quit, even though she came back.
If it comes to skill alone, then Christina would probably win hands down, however Chief Resident is about a multitude of factors, mainly leadership and a level head, which Meredith carries much further then Alex or Christina. And when it comes to skill, it's not as if Meredith is totally beaten, think of her trial with Derek. Christina and Alex have hardly taken initiative like that.
Meredith is like the mother of the hospital, and it seems much more logical to me that she would get it, however knowing thisssss show, I think they're going to pull something random. I guess we'll wait to see!
I agree that if April were chosen it would just make for some entertaining storylines because they won't take her seriously in anyway. She might be qualified but she doesn't really have the respect that other characters have.
I don't think that Lexie is a candidate either because she's in a lower year.
Jackson might be okay but personally, I don't think he's really shown great skill yet. I haven't really seen him step up the way that a Chief Resident should.
If Cristina didn't quit, I think she'd be the front runner for the position because she can be a lot like Bailey in a sense. She's obviously skilled and she's straight up to your face. No sugar coating and the like but still professional. However, I don't think they'll give it to her now seeing as how she just came back. They're gonna take things slow with her because I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to overwhelm her.
I still stick to the decision being between Meredith and Alex. For me, they're the only original doctors (meaning from season one) that are really eligible for the position and it would be good to see it go to one of them. We've seen them develop the most over the years so it would be better to see one of them being recognized. I think Alex should get it simply because I want him to have a solid storyline for himself.
Just watched the previews and Cristina seems to be a candidate as said by the Chief himself. Definitely makes things more interesting if you ask me.
Cristina or Alex...Mer I don't think will care too much since her mind is on babies....and Lexie isnt even in the running....April and Avery are pretty doubtful since they haven't been there as long and I have a feeling Avery is still dealing with some pretty heavy internal PTSD
I don't think Cristina is in the running, not so much because of her just returning to work but because we have seen in the past how power hungry she gets. Remember the interns? The sparkly pager (that she tricked Mer into giving her)?
I think Alex is a good candidate. Even though on a personal level he is a grade A jerk considering how he treated Iz in the past, how he treated April, and how he treated Lexie, he is still nonetheless the only one who has really grown medically. We still don't even know Mer's choice of surgery, but we do know Alex's and the fact that he stands up to Stark and comes up with creative ideas to me makes him a much better candidate.
With Jackson, we don't see enough of him to be a Chief yet, in fact, he has no chief skills in him, he walks out of a surgery, and quit on the trauma drill and is too caught up in his emotional dilemmas.
Meredith too, is wrapped up in her emotional dramas. I can't see her being a leader since she at times can be easily duped such as the past Cris scenarios. She is so busy with her own personal life that she lets it affect work (such as the Owen stuff) and so she in my opinion, wouldn't make a great candidate. And again, she still hasn't established her speciality, you just see her usually with Neuro or General but that is it.
April, in terms of organization would be a great candidate, but like others have said, she is pretty weak case in point, how Lexie overrode her decisions. I do think that April has it in her to stand up for herself considering in season 6 she used her niceness to trick people. But overall, guys like Karev would go over her head.
I could see April and Karev as a tag team duo though. April does the paperwork and organization skills and Karev does the bossing around.
Mer will be a good candidate and Alex, but maybe the med student he will be flirting with or whatever could easily get in the way..
Even though our interns likes to be in the O.R not doing paperwork etc..
Alex! He's consistently good (medically speaking). He has more passion about paediatrics than Meredith seems to have about Neuro nowadays. Christina has a black mark from the breakdown, Jackson makes too many mistakes and is a general tosspot, April is too weak to boss people about..
I think Alex deserves it - he never let any of his personal issues get in the way of his medicine. When all that crap went down with Izzie he was still an amazing doctor. Or Christina, because she is BACK.. and probably the best surgeon.
Definitely don't think Mer will be the chief...really think by the sneak peeks that it is going to be Alex or Cristina.
@annaleise the way alex treated izzie, lexie, and april in the past has nothing to do with being chief resident...that is his personal life, and Alex has never let his personal life get in the way of his work negatively...I really do feel that he is the strongest candidate...we will see
and as for Mer, I really don't even think she is going to be caring AS MUCH as the others considering they are making it seem like her main focus is to have a baby....buuuut i guess we will wait and see
@Caitlyn your right Lexie is only a 4th year, while the others are 5th years.....I have a feeling we won't even find out this season who it is...unless we find out at the end....because they are still 5th years right now, and in the sneak peek, the chief said they are STARTING to look at candidates for chief resident....I have a feeling that this season is going to end along the same timeline of season 3, with the end of this season being the start of a new coming residency year(since we know those began in july...)
Being Chief Resident is not about who is the best surgeon, is about who is the best leader and who has the ability to put surgery aside and do the administrative work that it is essential to being Chief Resident, it is also about who is the best teacher, which unfortunally none of them are. Callie was fired from being Chief Resident because she negleted the paperwork.
Meredith, Cristina and Alex love the OR too much, and they would have a hard time putting the scalpel down so they could do the residents schedules and papaerwork. Meredith has a hard time letting herself be heard by her peers, Cristina has a hard time standing up to authoritive figures and she would not put her scalpel down so she could go do paperwork. Alex is a excellent doctor and surgeron, and knows how to make himself be heard, however I don't if he is capable of putting surgery aside so he could do papework.
April nobody would listen to her, Cristina would eat her for breakfast, but she is good at the paperwork. Jackson could be good at it if he shows signs of being a good at anything, which he hasn't.
