Ive been watching this show from the beginning and it seems to me that Sylar has no intention of killing Peter at this point (when he is back to bieng Sylar). Lets recap
Season one Sylar knows nothing about Peter the times he tries to kill him until the final scene and Sylar knows the outcome of Peter exploding. He even says looks like your the villain.
Season 3 peter kicks sylars ass then sort of accepts that it may be his brother. sylar saves him from the fall and then lets him walk away after killing arthur. You have nothing I want anymore. In that room he could have easily killed both peter and nathan but instead he flys away with nathan and waits for peter to leave.
If sylar wants you dead you are dead. I think he empathizes with peter like he did micah.

i like this.
the only real fights we've seen with them two is when peter has instigated them! or has bumbed into sylar when he is on a mission.
sylar has never hunted peter.
however, this doesnt change the fact that it is inevitable that these two will faceoff in the future sometime. ITS GONNA HAPPEN:)
I'm not too sure that sylar empathizes with peter tho. i just think he does see a purpose for killing peter, and taking his power. he's never had a power that sylar would want to take.
peter's first ability is pretty much the same as sylar has anyway. and his current ability is laughable for sylar.
i dont think that sylar would have been able to take all of peter's abilities when he was a sponge, just the sponge ability.
you'd have thought sylar would have tried to take all of arthur's abilities....
back to the topic tho.....its ironic that it's always peter with the beef towards sylar. yet we all want a big fight between the two:) and peter is the hero!!

Sylar seems to pick his targets. Theres lots of people he's just considered insignificant. Hiro is the most suprising really. But I think Sylar's mind is just on the goal of collecting powers. Anything gets in his way and he'll fight it but other than that he doesn't seek out fights. Peter does because he wants to be a hero.

I wouldn't necessarily say Sylar doesn''t want to kill Peter, neither is that he wants to. I think ultimately, this show will come down to Sylar and Peter squaring off -- if in fact Zachary Quinto and Milo Ventimiglia stick it out to the end. I would love to see a season 5 finale where they are squaring off in the Oval Office with Sylar posing as President Nathan Petrelli, as we saw in the Five Years Gone episode in S1. The elements are very much in place that that could still happen. Just because Sylar has become Sylar again doesn;t mean he won;t see value in using his shapeshifting ability to pose as Nathan Petrelli. Think about it. Gabriel Gray is a wanted killer. Nathan is a respected politician. he could go back to the Nathan persona as a "hiding spot', for lack of a better word.
As for Sylar passing up opportunities to kill Peter, at the end of S1, it was a climatic battle and Peter was seemingly going to die anyway. In S3, Sylar was working on acquiring abilities by empathy and at one point was working on building a kinship with Peter. And two other points on that: Peter was powerless, so there was no need for Sylar to kill him; and why kill him when it was obvious Arthur was going to do it anyway?

I can see your points about Sylar not having a reason for killing Peter, but I have to say that I think he certainly has a reason now. Peter was the last face that Sylar saw before he woke up as Nathan, and I know I'd be pretty pissed if someone stabbed me with a syringe in my neck. I think once Sylar gets his old psyche back from Parkman the hunt will be on, and both sides will be out for blood. Peter doesn't even know Nathan is dead yet, so imagine how much ass he's gonna want to kick when he finds out.

Good point Pyropuppy. This season will take a turn for the "even better" if Sylar gets his memories back and goes on a hunt for the people who did this to him: Mama Petrelli, Noah, Parkman and Peter.

They are destined to fight each other..and I am hoping that the Writers, producers, directors, NBC staff understand that by now that this is something that the fans want.

They really haven't had a satisfying confrontation since season 1, with the shattered glass shard fight.
