What is the purpose behind samuel's compassPosted 11/17/2009 10:57:24 AM #
It points to the carnival, apparently. They talked about the magnetic force made by a large group of heroes in close proximity, and the compass is used to locate that large group.Posted 11/17/2009 12:24:08 PM #
I was thinkin that maybe the compass points specifically to Samuel. It may have originally been designed to find Samuel as everyone at Cyote Sands seems to think he's gona be the most powerful Hero on the planet..
.. He could now be using it as a way to help people find him while he's at the circus...Posted 11/18/2009 5:12:16 AM #
Sorry for posting AGAIN.. but it could also explain why Samuel was looking for Danko.
Joeseph may of explained to Danko that Samuel had the potential to be the most powerful person on Earth. Danko may of killed Joeseph when he refused to tell him where Sullivan was.. he may of then killed Joeseph and taken the compass.
If Samuel knew that Danko had the compass and knew that Danko would dedicate his life to finding and killing him, that would explain why he sent Edgar back to kill him and get the compass.
It may also explain why Samuel puts the compass image on Peter. He may of realised that a time will come when Peter will need to find Samuel....Posted 11/18/2009 6:49:36 AM #
Its a shame about Danko... he looked like he had an interesting backstory.
I can't believe the compass is so simple- pointing towards the carnival, what with heroes generating energy when they are gathered in a group. This explains everything. It makes Samuel's "family" seem like just a disguise to hide his true intentions. I love it.Posted 11/18/2009 8:33:12 AM #
and Samuel's plan. Everyone was expecting something big and complex but no, he just wants to be powerful. For a story centered around such a simple goal, its awesome.Posted 11/18/2009 8:43:08 AM #
The big question Ravenhill is what Samuel wants to do with that power. Therein lies the intrigue. It is quite possible that Joseph gave Danko the compass, but I can't believe danko killed Joseph on his own volition. I can't help but suspect Samuel played a large role, if not the only role, in killing Joseph and framing it to look like Danko did it. As we saw in Brother's Keeper, Samuel certainly had the motivation to do so: joseph held him back for his entire life, and possibly may have given Danko a tool needed to find and stop Samuel. An evil, diabolical character like Samuel Sullivan needs much less inspiration than that to kill somebody, even if he is family.
The compass does seem to point to Samuel, and it could mean his power is essentially controlling the natural magnetic forces of the Earth to manipulate the natural environment around him. The more people with abilities around him, the more concentrated the magnetic forces with which he can wreak his havoc. It would explain why the compass spun wildly out of control for Peter, but did nothing in the hands of HRG. And it would point to Samuel as a de facto polar north, guiding people directly to him. That's why he was so desperate to get the one in Danko's possession.
Just a thought. As usual, I'm probably way off.Posted 11/18/2009 9:28:57 AM #
Guys this is probably a very stupid question but are there two compasses now? (the one that Samuel has and the one that Mohinder created) that point to his carnival.
I previously thought that the compass itself was special because it only seems to work when those with abilities hold it but they are displaying it right now as just an ordinary compass, not special about it.Posted 11/18/2009 9:45:01 AM #
The spindle on Mohinder's compass looks the same as that on Samuel's, so I wonder if Samuel took that one and fashioned it to look more like a real compass. Of course, there aren't too many ways to make a spindle look all that different, so this could be nothing. But I'm trying to remember the path of the compass, and that perhaps there are several. Danko had one, and it was taken by HRG and Peter, then Edgar got that one from HRG. Samuel gave one to Tracey -- I'm guessing this same one. But it always seems as if Samuel has one in his possession. Maybe I'm not remembering this correctly, but did he not offer one or show one to Claire? And this would have been after he gave one to Tracey, which he did in the episode where the healing kid was killed.Posted 11/18/2009 10:45:57 AM #
In the iStory (which sucks, and I hate that there is relevent info there) on the heroes main site, one of the most recent stories revealed that Samuel has a droor full of compasses. He must have found the one Mohinder made and figured out how to make more, inlcuding the one in ink on Peter's arm.
I'm pretty sure the purpose of it is to point people with abilities to Samuel's magnetic force.Posted 11/19/2009 12:51:54 PM #
