Kitanishi, I completely understand why you'd compare them. I mean you can compare all vampire shows. But you have compared them. Past tense. multiple times. So, we've gotten it out there. I think i understand ur point that there similar and that ur opinion is that btvs is better. But u dont have to make ur point ALL THE TIME. We've discussed it, its ur favorite show. But we are in a tvd forum so if we could focus on it, that would be better.
So yeah i agree with this thread.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for this thread to be made. I don't post much here and lately even less so since season 2 ended b/c of all these comparisons. I used to watch BTVS, I think it was an awesome show. You have TVD that is the same genre so generally there will be parallels and ppl will comment on them. I just feel like every time BTVS is brought up it's done to bash TVD. As mentioned by many this is a forum where ppl who love the show come to discuss it. Ppl have differing opinions and battle it out in their own ways like ship wars but it's always about the show and how much they love a certain aspect of it (or certain couple, friendship, theme). All i see is bashing all the time when it comes to the comparisons between TVD and BTVS. It's unfortunate. I don't understand why people spend so much time criticizing a show they don't seem to like. It seems like a waste of energy especially when it's constantly being done.

COmparison is NOT something that just stops. Every time certain discussions come up, the comparisons are bound to come back. So everytime someone goes back to "elena is as bland as bela" or "i hope stefan will get to be evil at least a bit" or "this show whitewashes every action elena does" or any other stuff, the comparisons ar ebound to happen to reinforce various arguments. Its not comparing or sake of comparison(and Believe me I could write 557485 page article on why first 12 episodes of btvs are better than first 12 episodes of tvd and then do comparison of each episode noting what btvs did better, but i don't since its unfair to TVD). Its comparison as argument and it is bound to come back againa and again.
You have TVD that is the same genre so generally there will be parallels and ppl will comment on them.
Correction: BTVS pretty much set the genre itself. SO yeah. ANY vampire-genre show or movie will get compared to it.
Correction#2: The shows have same roots(TVD books) and tvd like sto copy btvs scenes so comparisons are bound to happen.
I just feel like every time BTVS is brought up it's done to bash TVD.
Considering BTVS is hugely superior show to TVD(and well, let's be fair, to pretty much EVERY tv show to ever come out after it), it might look like that.
But what you see as Basing, I see as criticism and discussing the negative points of TVD. TVD is not perfect. Let's not live in illusion it deep, perfect or complex show. The more people will realize the negative sizes of it, the less delusional they will be about it and the less disappointed they will be when the hype does not match the delivery and the more its likely that the show will imrpove.
. Ppl have differing opinions and battle it out in their own ways like ship wars but it's always about the show and how much they love a certain aspect of it
I am sorry that sounds like dictatorship or socialism. Its a free world. Comparisons are bound to happen. Criticism is bound to happen. Pointing out the severe flaws of the show is bound to happen. If one can't accept the fact that his show is not perfec then one is not a fan, one is a blind fanboy then. ANd that kind of people is exactly what ruins tv shows(example: Heroes, Supernatural)
You come to internet, just as in real world, expect to see opinions you don't like, but for the love of all the gods, don't expect to just silence the opinions you don't like and cover yourself in a bliss. Every opinion that is well argumented is there to stay.

This exactly.
When you have something that are able to set, what maybe is the highest standard in the genre, it is gonna be used a lot to reinforce the arguments of the weak spots of the show.

That has to do mostly with the fact that people sometimes have different opinions.
The fact that the show of which this fanbse is of, is not exactly the best thing ever or the highest thing in the ranking is something that is bound to cause ripples ;P
When you have something that are able to set, what maybe is the highest standard in the genre, it is gonna be used a lot to reinforce the arguments of the weak spots of the show.
Especially when:
- The shows are related by the source material.
- BTVS pretty much defined the genre of vampire fiction on tv.
- TVD writers are perfectly aware of and know BTVS really well and K.Williamson was bassically fangasming over SMG trying to get her into TVD for at least three different roles over the year.
