ok - I have been watching the show since it first aired but for some reason I feel like I missed something.
How are Katherine/Elena related? (if thats what you want to call it) I was under the assumption that Elena just looked like her. I was told though that Katherine is actually her ancestor. Is this true and how does it work if Isobel is Elenas mother? Are Katherine and Isobel related or do Elena and Katherine just look alikes?

Isobel is Elena's birth mother. I think they only implied that Katherine is their ancestor - they haven't actually verbally stated it. All Stefan said when Elena asked why she looks like Katherine is, "You were adopted". I think that's all.

I think we can safely assume Isobel and Elena are connected to Katherine. Without delving into all the eppys, Isobel and Elena had this conversation:
Isobel: You look just like her. It's eerie.
Elena: You've met Katherine.
Isobel: She found me after I turned. Genetic curiosity, I suppose.

ah yea i don't think it's been stated either..i dont recall that tbh..but i think they have to be related kinda because they look way too much alike :P

I have a question: In the books does Elena ever become a vampire? And if she does is it towards the end, middle..?

^ from what i was told, she does turn into a vampire.. but it was more towards the middle of the series. third book i believe, but dont quote me on that lol

yes she does cos i read a snippet where she's just turned, has this major fling with damon whom she prefers more than stefan at that point in time, and matt will help her with her thirst issues :/ but theseries doesnt really follow the book storyline so i guess we're open to a new one :)

jeremys parents died pre-pilot. they've never named/ showed them on screen
