     What I wrote before wasn't ridiculous but this is: In the near future, Klaus and his hybrid army have killed off most of the vampires and witches, converted most of the werewolves, the other Originals are either permanently dead or with Klaus, and he is locked into a war with Michael and his hunter army. An old witch friend of Katherine's gives Bonnie a spell for travelling to the past before she's killed by hybrids. Only non-living things/people can travel through time. Caroline's the only vampire that can go back because no one would know or suspect her.
