    Isn't mystic falls somewhere in south carolina or virginia. I always thought mystic falls was situated in the south because of the civil war slavery thing...although none of the characters have a southern accent. Well nothing on the show has to make much sense though.

    Mystic Falls is in southern Virginia. A viking village was found on Gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada. So it's not much of a stretch of reality. It could have happend.
