First of all, I'd like to say that I love Damon to death. He's one of the best TV characters ever and Ian Somerhalder does a great job. I'm also all for Delena (and some occasional Daroline hook-up).

Now that I cleared that up, I want to say this: killing Mason? DICK MOVE! Well, he wouldn't even have to kill him in the first place. The Salvatore brothers could capture him and compel him to get him on their side. And to go a lil back in time, Damon was the one going after Mason when he could just make peace with him. Plus, the 2 of them have lots in common (as Damon remarked in the last episode). And to be honest, I didn't like Damon torturing Mason - it was cruel. Not that we weren't expected him to be... well, damonish, but all this was really unnessecary.

The can´t compel Mason. He is supernatural. Damon saidso himself when he told Mason his love for Katherine must have been real because Katherine could not have compeled him

Oh, you're right - I had forgot that. But still they could keep him in the basement and have Bonnie get visions from him.

TBH, he hated his curse, and Katherine was NEVER gonna free him from it. He DID want to die in some way.

Also, to me personally, getting killed sounds much better than being locked up in the basement for the rest of my life. And they already got all the information that they were gonna get out of him. If they let him go they would have tried to kill Damon and Stefan and very possibly succeeded.

As harsh as it sounds killing him off was really the best thing to do, and very necessary.

It's like Damon said, kill or be killed. Damon doesn't always have the best judgement, for example goading Katherine he's far too reckless sometimes. However to be fair Mason didn't care when stefan and damon were being tortured by liz did they? He was happy to let them die and was very smug about it. If Damon hadn't have killed him then they would all still be waiting for an opportunity to kill the other. There was no way they could let him live. I also think it was symbolic that in killing mason damon extinguished the last of his feelings towards katherine. He saw that vulnerability and blind love in Mason and metaphorically killed it. I agree with those who said it was actually doing mason a favour. Saved him a lot of heartache in the end............. Excuse the pun x

ITA agree with @TDARFSWR

What Damon did to Mason was no different to what Mason was planning on doing to the Salvatores the episode before. Only Damon succeeded.

but Damon was the one that first tried to kill Mason and got himself an enemy. even though Stefan tried to be nice, Damon made it clear he didn't want peace.

Damon was the one who started the war against Mason...or that's what we thought back on episode 4 (I think it was episode 4 lol) because he was actually working with Katherine the whole time, so I think he would become a problem no matter what Damon did. I think Damon just moved things a little quicker lol

And when Katherine told Mason to stay away from the Salvatores (or something like that) he was like "what do you want with them?" all jealous, so he probably never liked them very much

Damon's like the little kid that's been told "Don't do that Damon" and he does it anyway LOL

I think I wanna start a fight with him right now. pilot-style maybe like he did with Katherine ;)
