SHE WAS MARY SUE IN S1. OH GOSH WHAT EVEN. ARE YOU OKAY? Just because she was likable and tolerable in it doesn't mean she WAS NOT MARY SUE.
She was a character with very plausible characterization of survivor's guilt. We had the whole "she was different before" shit, we had the fact taht back then we knew that she got her parents dead because she was drunk as hell at party she was not supposed to be in, etc.
So with survivor's girl, a duller personality and obsession with being a nice-girl her parents would have liked made sense. That's why interaction with Damon was so beautiful because back then it would bring out the real elena from time to time, while steffie fed her illusions and psychological condition.
In S2 they threw that all out of the window, ruining her character potential.
yep they retconed her entire past lul making her just as boring back then as she is now, retoning entire season one.
I love how she was suppose to be drunk at the party and when they flashed back to it she wasnt?!?!? Lol
I know, and how is it that no one, I mean NO ONE, not the writers, not even Nina questioned this when they were shooting that episode...
Not to mention that Damon was suddenly all sweet and 'you shoul find true love and live a happy life'-ish. To a girl who looked EXACTLY like Katherine. The Damon we met in the Pilot would have kidnapped her, compelled her brains out and made her his personal slave. Elena not being drunk I can understand, she's a perfect goody-goody girl after all, can't have her doing anything less than exemplary, but Damon? It's like the writers gave a random 12 year old Delena fan two minutes of the show that she could fill whatever.
And how this is going to make the triangle more complicated is beyond me - they met, talked, he messed with her head. How romantic.
^You know what is even more pathetic about that DE flashback? The fact that up until now Damon couldn't tell them apart but he instantly believed that she wasn't Katherine and he knows very well how manipulative Kat can be,she can easily fooled him by pretending to be someone else.
Well, objectively, he had no reason to think she is katherine as katherine was supposedly in the tomb back then ;]
Elena not being drunk I can understand, she's a perfect goody-goody girl after all, can't have her doing anything less than exemplary,
The problem is that the show ALREADY has established her being drunk and all. Its one of the most horrible retcons in this show to ever happen.
To Bored Now:
You said many times that you didn't think that Damon and Elena made sense as a couple for many reasons like the fact that he is abusive as we have seen with Caroline and Andie and you said that what he did to Caroline was rape so I'm surprised that you thought that they made sense as a couple in Season I since he abused Caroline, Elena's best friend, in Season I.
How can you say that they made sense back then after what he did to Caroline? What kind of person would ever consider as a boyfriend someone that abused and tried to kill her friend?
And that's not the only thing that he did in Season I. He also stalked and tried to kill Bonnie.
He turned Vicki, Jeremy's girlfriend, into a vampire and then told her to go to Elena's house.
He threatened Elena many times.
He threatened Stefan that he would turn Elena into a vampire and forced her to drink his blood.
He kidnapped an injured Elena instead of taking her to a hospital: what if she had an internal bleeding?!
He left Elena all alone in the tomb, after taking her as an hostage, and she nearly died.
He tried to manipulate Elena.
He made her have a dream about him in order to make her believe that she was in love with him.
He compelled her to think that she wanted him and that was why she had that dream and to kiss him. If Elena didn't have her necklace she would have kissed Damon against her will. And probably that's not the only thing that he would have made her do. He would have made her sleep with him.
You can't say that they made sense back then. They didn't.
It seems like that what made you stop shipping them was Season two's first episode... so by that I suppose that you thought that Damon woud be a better person now, that he wasn't someone who would... kill Jeremy after Elena rejected him. (Personally, I thought it was in character for Damon to do that: they did say and show, after all, that he loves in a twisted way. I do admit that I thought after Season 1 that he would become a better person but it was still kind of in character for him to do that)
So the things he did before were ok because you thought that now he wouldn't do anything like that anymore and when he did all that again you lost respect for him? Was it the lack of character devolopment the problem?
yeah didn't they have turn louis into this awful creep to prop up chair?
Inever watched Gossip Girl but I read that Chuck sold Blair once. Is that true? How did that happen?
