How many characters have died so far?

Another two people (a couple) were also killed in the second episode (they were camping in a tent) and in episode 8, a man was killed by Damon when he was kissing his girlfrind in an alley or so and the girl was the one to expose Lexi/Damon.

Alaric, Johnathan and Jeremy were also killed, but they luckily had the magic ring :)

And the running girl that Logan bit died too, I think and Grams also died, though she was not killed.

There is also the guy that kidnapped Elana, Trevor killed him
There was the Fair worker which Caroline killed
There was also the guy Isabol compelled to commit suicide after giving Elana a message

If Caroline counts, then Isobel does too........and Damon, Stefan, Katherine........

No.. we're talking about characters who have died and are never coming back. So, once Caroline gets killed, then she's in this list...Otherwise, vampires who are still on TVD do not count.
Once a vampire has been staked and is seriously never coming back, then he's in the list. So, let's NOT put Elijah in the list. I know he was staked but he either didn't die or he resurrected himself.
Again, only characters who have been killed and are NEVER ever coming back.. EVER.

You should have mentioned that in your first post so we knew what you exactly meant :) But there's stills so many who have died, it's unbelievable! :P
