Nina Dobrev, a bad actress?

The problem is probably more with the character than the actress. Katherine is pretty good, and flashback Katherine in Bulgaria was really nice for that short clip. Most flashback Katherine scenes are good. blaming dobrev for Elena's blandness probably isn't fair.
It'd be like blaming Matt the Monstrosity on the poor actor, whatever his name, who got saddled with the role.

I think she's better as Katherine than Elena. She's a great actress, but as Elena, she falls flat sometimes, especially when she's supposed to look devastated or breaking down.
I think either way, she works well with Ian Somerhalder because I've been seeing more emotion in her performances with him since season 1. Ian works well with everything including the wall, LOL.

The actor is suppose to portray the character as they see it and bring that character to life. She has failed at that with Elena and with Katherine it's not to hard to act like a bitch. Candice did that in her sleep in the 1st half of season 1.Posted 10/12/2011 8:30:47 PM #

Nina is fine,
Elena is just a fail character.
it's hard to portray the idea of her being like what she is, because she presents inhuman qualities

WEll frankly, Nina dobrev lacks that "trampling anyone in my way, getting what I want and being fiercely dangerous" vibe Elena needs. Things that actresses like Emily VanCamp(Emily, Revenge), K.Cassidy or SMG had. She is good actresss, but nina would not be able to pull off book elena.

i think that she's a terrible actress in TVD, it's not that she doesn't show emotion' it's that she's always being overdramatic and fake. it's getting hard to watch sometimes...

Hate the character, not the actress. She's perfectly fine as Katherine and I'm actually amazed how well she can play two completely different girls. Elena is not boring and blant because of Nina's acting, she's that way because that's exactly what the writers and producers wanted her to be.

I think you are spot on about Nina's acting it's not good at all. just look at the scene when she cried over Bonnie that was awful and anyone who says otherwise i consider to be stans and don't really care about the actress. you want your favorite actress to progres and get better and she won't be able to do that if people continure to lie to her. i support your blog. your honest, and bravery to speak out on the matter. you go girl ....LOL!
