I don't think Taylor's songs are sexist either. When writing/singing she doesn't represent an entire gender, she only represents her self and how she feels. Those are just the type of songs that teenage girls die for. I don't get her popularity at awards shows like the grammys though. The only thing she's guilty of is being overrated. I do like Mean thought, but that maybe because Glee covered it so well.

Yes, well, all of ideologies and problems start that way. I am sure that anti-gay protesters also can say that they do it "because its how they feel".

Those are just the type of songs that teenage girls die for.

And hello to the roots of our sexist world and rape-culture. Because people who grow up with such material, ACT like that material. Material in which a male side is not to blame for any sort of break up and instead its obviously ANOTHER female to blame who dresses "improperly" and acts "improperly".

People grow up with an inspiration froms ongs that sing about gender stereotypes and thus they WANT to be one of "good stereotypes" and want to shame the "bad stereotypes" and sexism, after all IS ALL ABOUT placing genders into stereotypes.

Now I know that T.Swift  is a radical christian so enforcing gender stereotypes is  sort pushed into her blood by that, but please, stuff liek that is EXACTLY why behavior like that exists in real life.

Oftopic:  Glee is no different. It might pretend to be politically correct, but its still all about stereotypes that can be found offensive even by the minorities that Glee "tries to" represent with that. thats one of major problems(apart from horrid writing) that I have with that show

Present day teens are growing up in generation where parents are telling them "to not get raped" and NOT to rape. Where people are judged by how they dress accprdordomg to the subjective opinions of those who judge,

Where rape victims are SHAMED by communities, where fanbase finds a "character" slutty just because she does not cover her entire chest with clothes or activelly acts upon her feelings.

Its the culture where male figures are always excused for denying the relationship or breaking up(because obviously, according to Taylor Swift, its not the fault of the jerk who broke up, but of that another girl). Where being sexually active, according to T.Swift is EVIL and you get pregnant and die.  And where your partner in relationship is treated as something you OWN and not someone who is here of his/her own consent.

Thats the world Taylor Swift and the likes idolize and sing about.

Flora, remember all the anon hate people keep getting, you included, for disliking Elena, talking how PROPER she is(or something like that)? Remember the sexism taht has KILLED Supernatural tv show? Remember the sexism surrounding the outrage about females in Teen Wolf?

you can thank at least partially to taylor Swift and Julie Plec for that.

I hear what you're saying, I just don't think that Taylor's/JP's line of thinking or portraying of women have that much of a lasting effect on people. Sure tweens eat that s**t up, but when you're reach my age(19) and really start to think independantly, those kind of ideologies are left behind, especially in society today, yet you still like the songs or the writing. The reason the issue is still a problem is not because of the songs, its because of how old folk raise their kids(they're definitely not listening to Taylor Swift), especially in small towns. Then again, maybe it's just the people I surround myself with, who don't rely on men as source of ambition or goals.

Off topic: I too have struggled with how women are portrayed in Glee, but than I figured it's a satire and it's supposed to poke fun at these stereotypes, besides if you're gonna label Glee sexist, atleast the sexist swing swings both ways: 80% of males in Glee are portrayed as dumb and dumberer and only 1 of the males in the graduating class went to college(with 1 other still planning too).

With TW all I saw on my dash was either you guys defending Allison or a few morons I followed insulting her about w/e. From what I learned they were okay with the guys doing something outrageous but not when the girl did it. That Lydia girl however was all over my dash getting praised for being kick ass in some episode or something weeks back, so it's kind of ironic. They praised one girl for kicking ass but hated the other? That's the gist I got on my dash this month.   With the anon(s) defending Elena I figured they had to be some kind of die hard twilight attics who think the female being kidnapped and danger prone all the time is cool. Like how they delusionally try to convince theirselves that Elena and Bella kick ass. And it's fans like those (the ones I saw on tvd.net) who praise Elena for doing absolutly nothing, calling her "warrior" yet insulting Caroline for being "too kick ass/ too perfect" or a "show off" it astounds me really. They even complain that JP is turning the show into "the caroline diaries"   Oftopic:  Glee is no different. It might pretend to be politically correct, but its still all about stereotypes that can be found offensive even by the minorities that Glee "tries to" represent with that. thats one of major problems(apart from horrid writing) that I have with that show    I. hate. Glee. exactly for this reason. Season one was tolerable but then as I (insanely) tried to follow season to season I got annoyed with the repetitive ironic messages it gave. It continues to make these speeches about bullying and accepting yourself/people, yet makes it's characters say the most offensive one-liners that no one will even take serious and just brush aside for the sake of comedy. Them trying to be humorous about racism/homophobia/bullying and then making a 90 minute ep about how it's wrong is so annoying

And what annoys me the most is the 2 pathetic lesbians for the fact that one of them practically manipulated the other and took advantage of her air-headedness, even saying at one point that her stupidity is helpful for getting her to do what she wants, yet that's completely okay because they're deeply in love so who cares about the emotional abuse in that relationship.

I think the thing with Taylor is that she's just so focused on singing about mean people, from assholes (who dumped her) to bullies. She's inspirational yet she gives the impression that she holds a lot of grudges. Because I saw her in a commercial telling a story about a guy she liked in high school, even having the audacity to say his full name, and how he went out with some other girl instead. She basically made him look like an ass for not noticing her and liking someone else, are you for real?   It's funny you call her sexist because I would call her feminist in some ways depending on the songs and stuff she says, since she has to sing about everything guy who dumps her and in all of her break-up songs or videos the girl is always the victim of lying, cheating, being mistreated.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
