Iron Man 1 ends with Nick Fury(Samuel Jackson) visiting Stark and stating that he is not only superhero in the world and saying htey should discuss "Avengers initiative"
Thor ends with Nick Fury asking Selvig to investigate and experiment upon a mysterious device they found, with Loki standing there invisible to everyone, listening (pretty much confirming he is alive)
Iron Man II ends with SHIELD discovering a large hammer at the bottom of the lake.
Captain America ends up with Steve Rogers/Captain America awakening in the modern times, running out disoriented into a city, only to be apprehended by Nick Fury who offers him to "save the world".
