STORY

Ever since her teenager years, Bo Dennis has always been on the run, leaving a trail of bodies behind her. She is a succubus, grown-up in a human family and not sure of her true roots or her true nature. That all however changes with her latest "relocation" as the whole huge supernatural community of beings similar to her is revealed. A community of beings called "fae"(faeries, fairies, etc) who have been coexisting in secret and feeding  off humanity since the begining of time. The Fae are living in a fragile Cold War like situation, with the whole race split into two factions on a brink of a world war - The Dark and The Light. The war between the Dark and Light would lead to extinction of fae species, as well as of unaware humanty, so both sides mostly behave according to the set of rules they laid out. The main one being that every fae born has to be initiated into one of two sides.

In Bo's case, however - no one told her the rules, as she was hidden from both of the sides for majority of her life. When made to choose, Bo displays strong defiance to the way the fae have been living for hundreds of years - becoming a first unaligned fae, not bound to the Dark nor the Light, she starts to work as private investigator, trying to make her living in volatile town filled with criminals and secrets, both fae and human alike.

However by doing so, Bo is thrown into a middle of ruthless fae politics, with a lot of beings in both sides either wanting her gone or wanting to use her.

And as if that was not enough, the mystery of her true heritage is looming over has - as whatever has happened in supernatural community in past thousand years or so - it seems to be somehow connected to the legacy of her true family she never knew. The legacy that might as well destroy the fragile peace between two sides.

But that won't stop her. She was lost for years, but now that she has been found, she will live the life she choses to...

 CHARACTERS

First of all we have:

 Bo Dennis

Bo is a succubus - a creature who feeds off person's life-force through sexual interaction. Bo is strong, carefree, a bit broody and dark, yet at the same time quite light-hearted when her mood allows it. Despite being what most would call serial killer, she is hellbent on retaining whatever is left of her normalcy, sympathising with humans - something unheard of in the supernatural community. She is bisexual, sexually uninhibited, a bit unstable, a bit cray, seeking out a lot of different thrils - be it pissing people off and getting into trouble, or be it no-strings-attached relationships.

Despite being what one would call a murderer and a sex-demon, Bo is surprisingly clueless at relationships(since most of those she initiates a relationship with end up getting killed by her) and there's an interesting sense of duality in her character - on one hand she is a murderer and a monster, carrying a huge weight of her own sins, as well as having to navigate the supernatural world of her real parents, whom she never knew. On the other hand she is bassically a lost schoolgirl, longing for closeness, connection, something normal, something human and warm. Which is made hard because of her ocassional tendency to snap and murder or eat people.

Defiant till the end, she is the typical example of an independent lead who does whatever the hell she wants and lives by her own set of rules. The rest of superntural world first sees her as a joke, due to the fact that she is unaligned, but soon grows to see her as either a powerful enemy or an ally.

Kenzi

The moral compass of the show, a thief, a friend, a con-artist, a snark-machine,  a cray cray almost-always-drunk girl with plans just as cray as her herself - Kenzi is all of those things all at once. She is Bo's human best friend that Bo ends up inadvertedly saving. She will always find time to call out others on their bullshit while ignoring her own. She will always find the time for appropriate and inappropriate pop-culture references. And despite being a mere human, she will always be a ferocious hbic capable of stunning and confusing most of supernatural community. At the same time, while she is the moral voice of the show, Kenzi also is quite possessive, self-centered, a bit egoistic, as well as  fueled by her complexes, jealousy and fear of being useless. She also tends to sometimes get in way over-her-head, which might doom her in the future.

Strongly dislikes Lauren, yet has a very soft spot with Dyson, the two of them having a strange relationship bordering between friendship and something more. Despite that also seems to be somewhat attracted to Hale, since she can relate to him and enjoys him treating her as an equal.

The best way to describe Kenzi is to imagine an always-drunk cray hybrid  of Buffy, Veronica and Cordelia, who has grown up in a family of possibly russian mafia. She is someone who is impossible to predict and could very well bring you a cake one day, rob you the blind the next and join travelling circus the third.

 Lauren

Lauren is a human doctor/scientist working for the Light side. Geeky, a bit insecure at times, but very direct, when she has something to say, Lauren is someone who, just like Bo is haunted and bound by the past, represented by the necklace she wears that has quite surprising meaning and origin.

Lauren is the "brains" of the whole cast. Someone who does not fear to voice her own moral concerns, but at the same time is someone who likes to hide quite a few skeletons in her closet(or basement), as well to do what she thinks is necessary.

She is in love with Bo and generally sees Bo as someone redeemable and certainly not a monster. Lauren generally has some sort of untold dispute with Dyson and is generally disliked by Kenzi.

 Dyson

Dyson is a VERY old wolf type of a shifter, possibly more than thousand years old. Humans would call that a "werewolf", but for Dyson that would be like being insulted, since werewolves don't usually survive that long, nor have control over their powers.

Posessive. Asshole. condescending. Overly-masculine. There are many ways to describe Dyson. Dyson is the typical "wolf" type of a character - someone who is prideful, enjoys being in control and hates being weak or being told what to do. Fairly provocative and challenging in self-defense, when someone picks upon his vulnerabilities. Although while egoistic, he would sacrifice himself for those he cares about without a second thought.

Dyson is in love with Bo, even if that love, at times, comes off as a whole lot more selfish than Lauren's. Generally displays a strong dislike towards Lauren. Has a strong soft-spot for Kenzi, as well as a long and mysterious history with Trick.

Trick

Possibly the most enigmatic and mysterious character in the entire show, Trick does not like to reveal ANYTHING about who he is or what he wants. From the outside he seems like a nice, well-mannered, grandpa who would cheer you up and comfort you with a strong hug. However despite such an appearance and behavior, Trick can be very cold and calculating doing a lot of strange and dick-ish decisions if they benefit his goals. Also he might work as bartender, but he seems to hold influence in the supernatural community to the point that even highest-ranking fae would think twice before going against his suggestions.

Is friendly towards Kenzi. Has a particular interest in Bo. Seems to have a huge past connection to Dyson, as well as intricate knowledge of the role Bo is supposed to play in the things to come.

 Hale

Dyson's best friend(or as close as that gets with Dyson), Hale is snarky, light-hearted, playboy siren, coming from a very dysfunctional and dangerous family. He behaves in such a way Hale's origins or connection to his family might seem to be unlikely. Is very friendly with Kenzi, first because he can relate to being a "sidekick" and then because he genuinely admires her.

SCREENCAPS

First of all, don't expect the cast to dress badly - just because you sometimes eat people does not mean you have to shop at salvation army store:

Also expect a LOT of eyecandy...for both genders:

OPINION

One of the most progressive shows on tv right now.

Takes the meaning of gender, sexual and racial equality to a new level and, what's more important does not try to differentiate lgbt relationships  in order to get free publicity(which usually ends up happening in other shows, in turn turning what should be a great and interesting relationship into a caricature *cough* glee *cough*

In this show, writers do NOT make a big deal about on how the lead is bisexual - she just is. Its part of who she is and everyone in the show treats it as completely normal and usual. Its not there to be a "point". Its not there to the "focus" - its there because its normal and no different from being hetero/homo/a-sexual.

The concept of slut-shaming does not exist. The fac that the lead enjoys sex is taken as a NORMAL thing and the fact that she has casual sex is not demonised, which is VERY rare for genre tv show, considering the amount of sexism it usually has. Bo is an independent strong female lead who is not restricted in her sexuality, who is not punished for liking both men and women. Which is EVEN MORE rare currently.

Plot and characters wise?

Its the best damn guilty-pleasure show that is airing right now. Every character is likeable, yet an asshole at the same time. The over-arching mystery of Bo's family, as well as the puzzle pieces of how her life and role fits into all of that are enjoyable too.

Let's not forget villains, which show does VERY DAMN WELL - just to take two to make an example - Vex is enjoyable, snarky and twisted. Morrigan is downright cold, calculating, cruel and snarky, yet at the same time somewhat vulnerable and petty.

The show also does GREAT in moral ambiguity department - lead characters are allowed to do bad things, to feel negative emotions, to be self-centered, egoistic and bitchy. Bo is a killer and show does not shy away from her past, nor her current struggle and the same can be said about other characters.

Relationship wise - Lost Girl has one of the most mature and grown-up definitions of relationships and love triangles. The teen-drama style of relationship problems is kept to a minimum and most of relationship roadblock situations are solved in surprisingly mature matter(for example, in one of most recent examples, one character has been unfaithful to the other, so what does that character do? Angst? NOPE. The said unfaithful sits down with the person he/she has been unfaithful to and just outright explain what happened. The said person understands and they both reconcile, setting up a sort of open relationship, being okay with either of them having casual sex with someone else

Overall its just a damn great show. For me, personally it feels like a mix of first two-three seasons of Buffy, first season of TVD and the better parts of Charmed.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
