Has any one read this series? Because...you should it's pretty awesome lol Synopsis of first book: Clary fray is seeing things;vampires in Brooklyn and werewolves in manhattan.irresistibly drawn towards a group of sexy demon hunters, clary encounters the dark side of new York-and the dangers of forbidden love Basically the author, cassandra clare, wanted to take the fairytale mythology out of the forest and modernise it. So anyone read them lol?

No and by your description...i really really won't.

First of all

"taking" fantasy stuff into modern setting is nothing new. It has been happening for at least two decades

Contemporary fiction genre has been alive for at least 20 years already ever since N.Gainman wrote his "American Gods" and  Forever Knight aired on tv introducing us to the concept of brooding immortal vampire cops, latter genre being popularized by BTVS as well as book author Tim Powers spawning dozens of contemporary fiction books Since then we already had supernatural world wars and a world populated by all kinds of things modernised in btvs, the various forces and races of dark and light locked in warfare in Russia in Lukyanenko's Watch trilogy, wizards waging a war against vampires in the middle of chicago in dresden files book series, a vampire huntress in love with an archangel in guild hunter book series, a fairy in love with vampires in sookie stackhouse novels and whole lot of other stuff.(I should not even mention Anita Blake books because they are fairly well  known already)

Second of all, the fact that you description focuses on the sexualized feminine portayal of the main heroine already worries me a lot on the quality of the books as basic plot sounds like "look this sexy woman gets every sexy dark supernatural thing thrown at her, while she watches in awe"

well the synopsis on the first book  doesnt really do the series justice.the reviews give a better idea.

"dagger sharp, funky and cool"-christopher golden author of the myth hunters

"Clares atmospheric setting is spot on,informed equally by neo-gothic horror films and the modern fantasy leanings of Neil Gaiman(like you said).werewolves, vampiresangels and fairies all fit into this ambitious millieu. At the core though this is a compelling story about family secrets and coming of age identity crisis.fans of the smart chic horror typified by buffy the vampire slayer will instantly fall for the series"-publishers weekly

"the storys sensual flavour comes from the wealth of detail:demons with facial piercings, diners serving locusts and honey, pretty gay warlocks and cameo appearences from other urban fantasie characters...lush and fun"-kirkus reviews

im not saying the idea is particulary new but that was a paret of the idea of the series

Second of all, the fact that you description focuses on the sexualized feminine portayal of the main heroine already worries me a lot on the quality of the books as basic plot sounds like "look this sexy woman gets every sexy dark supernatural thing thrown at her, while she watches in awe"

actually she gets drawn in because she is one of them clary keeps getting involoved when she shouldn't which in part causes the problems in the series.Clary keeps doing what she wants despite what other people think\tell her

Bringing this back because...well ever get the feeling that a book series or tv show can't end well? Yeah.how do you deal with that?

well ever get the feeling that a book series or tv show can't end well? Yeah.how do you deal with that?

considering i am fan of:

who kills off the fan favorites in most brutal fashion(best example being dedicating an entire episode of showing the most fan favorite character, ala Caroline, die in agony and then spending the rest of the show with someone evil dark and old using the corpse of that character as a host, as if to mock the fanbase of that character) and ends his shows on the most possibly bleak and sour note (or a bittersweet ending with half the cast dead). And for some deaths  I will never EVER forgive that person....

I'd say the ride is more important than destination.  stuff should not be watched FOR the ending, but for the journey towards it. Ending is just the cherry on top and even if its unhappy, the pay off is worth it if its executed correctly. If the ending fits the storyline then its all great. happy endings are such a cliche anyway and without any loss or bittersweet taste there's no feeling that those characters acomplished anything.

thanks for the advice lol

ugh it's like gauranteed one of the main characters will die and most likely its the main guy,Jace because of the situation he's in right now and the fact the main character in the planned series after this wants to be the best shadowhunter SINCE jace wayland.

it's gonna get depressing.

It's great right? XD Well basically Clary accidentally stumbles into the world of shadow hunters or demon hunters a world which Clary doesn't realise she belongs to and when she does realise this,The search into her heritage set in motion most of the plot in the book.I don't know to tell you without spoiling it for you xD

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
