   I was confused too, it didn't seem like the bond was broken or that they actually broke up. It doesn't matter either way. Stefan is going to throw a hissy fit and forgive Elena, Damon will do something "heroicL and she'll swing back to him. Like a pendulum. Never-ending until the 6th season. I've had time to adjust and have now come to accept this, because if I ever want to fully enjoy the show.

   Seriously, till this trainwreck gets put out of its misery, the answer to any question formed as "did Elena and ____ broke up?"   will be "no". 

   In the finale, Steffie will be revealed to have been Tatia, the original doppelganger all along, and Damon will be arrested in the middle of the wedding for letting Silas fall down the falls of mystic falls to his death.
