TVD what would you have done differently?

Damon. Oh dear. Look, I can totally appreciate Damon transforming from being an unfeeling bastard to being a FEELING bastard, but I dont want to constantly be reminded about his feelings. Season 2 did Damon soooo wrong. Episode after episode, Damon was weeping and whining and on the ground/bathtub/floor, crying for the most boring person in creation. They should have just KEPT him sarcastic, badass, wild and dark, but added his confflicting emotions to a bear minimum. He was such a self-pitying pussy that I just wanted to switch the channel whenever she was on. He sucked. Damon, you are a very goodlooking man, but not even youcan pull off disgusting.
This so much.
Writers failed to regain the balance in the character they had in S1. The whole point of Damon and possible DE is that HE IS NOT STEFAN. He might be good and bad and all the in between, but it should not change WHO he is - someone who is HAPPY about the way he is existing, who has embraced it and who does not shy away from the darker sides of the world.
The whole point of book DE was that Elena saw things in Damon she will never see in Stefan and Damon saw Elena for who she was - someone total opposite of(as she was in books) calmer and more frail Katherine. Damon recognized her as strong woman. For Stefan Elena was something that would need to be protected. For Damon, Damon clearly realized that Elena is someone that you would neeed to be protected FROM. And in turn he realized eventually that he wants to preserve that strength to not let anyone break her. There's no point of DE if its same wangst as SE.
Katherine
Frankly I would have loved if major focus on Katherine was not on Klaus but on Elena. Katherine LOST people around her. Elena represents the "HAPPIER" life she will never get,so it would make sense for Katherine to want to ruin that. After her cptsd it would make perfect sense for her to be obsessed about turning ELena's life into hell and why she does that is better off to be left to the very end of her vilain-existence when she dies, turning her into a quite tragic character, but not taking away from her villain status.

Another bits I would have done to my previous page of stuff:
- Meredith getting introduced in S1, but her importance not getting revealed for a while. Let the whole mistery of her marinate, sink in, let viewers speculate for season or more till Klaus is revealed and we find out that Meredith is a half-vampire and has a particular grudge against Originals. It would provide a LOT of potential for drama in terms of "was meredith our friend because she wanted to or because where we are and who elena was" and would allow, yet again, for Elena to explode her relationships with people even more.
- Bonnie SHOULD have a sort of darker side to her power. She is a teenager who just got a huge pwoer. She should have longings and darker desires to use it for and she should make mistakes with it.
- Steffie's "dark past" should pay off(as I said in previous page). It shold not be just brushed off as the show did. there should be consequences for what he DID and Elena SHOULD experience what kind of person he was (he would make a perfect S4 villain as I said in last page). Hell have the death of Klaus lead to Klaus "vampyrric" stuff pass to Steffan making him more inhuman that way. So Klaus would be defeated at cost of Steffan's humanity.
