Vampire Diaries - Plotholes Thread
-
Right, back to topic.. which is plotholes...
Am I the only one still gnawing my teeth together at Esther being such a bad mum she can't even spell her kids' names? Gods, if the writers can't even google 'Rune translation' and spend five minutes getting it straight, it's no wonder they didn't bother with all the other plot holes! Such a lack of effort is just depressing. Speaking of, since when were witches connected to plants anyway? If they are, why did it take Bonnie seventeen years to realize that being a living fertilizer might not be normal? Oh, don't get me started on Bonnie! It's funny how Elena can at least be described with words like 'caring' and 'selfless'. Bonnie, however, is 'useful'... and maybe 'horny'. For Jeremy. And that's it. There's a huge hole where her personality should be.
Another thing is that vampires can grow immune to vervain. How so? They're frozen. Dead. Unchanging. Their hair and nails grow, I'm gonna guess back to the length it was when they died, but that's it. Immunity is your body adapting to something, but they cannot adapt, because THEY'RE FROZEN. Therefore, the only immunity they should be able to achieve, would be healing quicklier as they grew older. But no, apparently healing power is selective too, just like their hearing and strength(and everything else). Their lives must be so confusing, no wonder they're all having identity and existential crisises!

Considering most of her kids names did not even START in viking language and instead has hebrew roots, not surprising.
Writers most likely just went "hey let's make it all sound viking-ish" without putting any thoughts into it.
Hell, the whole "flashback" is fun of anachronisms like Klaus using word FUN, which WAS NOT INVENted or even commonly known till shakespearean times.

Show does not seem to know on if they are alive or dead. One Season someone implies that vampire hearts do not beat, the other that they do , for example.

Don't bother with the language mess. It makes no sense. Having the Originals speak English I understand - can't ask Jomo, Daniel, Claire,Sebastian Roche and what's-her-name Alice to learn perfect Norse overnight, but their language in the flashbacks was WAY too modern. 'Relax, dad, we were just having fun.' It's insulting our intelligence.
If Elijah can speak like a proper, old-timey gentleman in modern times, why couldn't his siblings speak properly in ancient times? (Don't even get me started on Kol, who'd been dead for 100+ and yet somehow took less than a week or so to learn all the slang. AND FINN)

I think that they do. In 2x19 Elena is about to check Elijah's pulse.(girl. he's grey, dead and not moving. guy goes not have a pulse!)
