why did Damon gave up so easy on Kat?

I think that happened so fast.Now he loves her , now he hates her.No period of transition?

I think that the quick transition to hate shows that he hasn't gotten over her. I also think that he gave up because he was so crushed, and also his ego was hurt. I mean, can we really expect to go to Katherine declaring his love, after she's just broken his heart and he knows he will get rejected and heartbroken all over again?

Damon was already hurt back in season 1 when he found out Katherine was alive the whole time and never looked out for him. He still had feelings for her but he also felt rejected - his ego was wounded. At the same time he developed feelings for Elena, feelings that were strong enough to make him hate Kat for wanting to harm Elena.
I believe that if Kat had told him he loved him and not Stefan in "The Return", he'd give her a second chance, but her rejection was the final drop - he now knows he has to get over her for good, and what better way to forget someone than hating him.

I dont think he gave up on her more than she just doesnt want him. What else is there for him to do, really? In fact, before she told him she didnt want him he still wouldnt give up on finding her. In The Return, he was willing to forget everything she`s done. To start over. I just think now he`s been rejected, he`s just trying to move on. He still loves her though. He just realized that it was never going to happen. He used the pain he felt from losing his home, humanity, and family to make himself believe he needed to rescue Katherine to survive.
And then a simple answer...He met Elena.
