Why doesn't Elena write in her journal anymore?

I actually think showing them writing in their journals is kind of boring. It's not driving the story, so what's the point?

The point is its in the name The Vampire Diaries. So people are going to ask "Why is it called that if there is nothing about a diary."
Its like Gossip Girl, what's the point in having the name if there was no Gossip Girl on the show, it would be irrelevant.

then we wouldnt get heartfelt entries like this
Dear diary: Today will be different, it has to be. I’ll smile and I’ll be beliveable, my smile says “I’m fine, thank you. Yes, I feel much better!” I will no longer be the sad little girl who lost her parents, I’ll start fresh, be someone new. It’s the only way I’ll make it through.

They're both based on a series of books of the same name. In BOTH series, Gossip Girl AND Elena writing in her journal are omnipresent themes of the series; and @CBFan, it DOES drive the storyline (in the books at least). THe shows have deviated away from the books immensely, so that's why I guess the writers haven't been focusing on those themes as much.
There was heaps of Gossip Girl in S1 and S2...and it would be weird if they changed the name of the show after S2. Plus, she still narrates the show..that's her role on the show.
And as someone else pointed out...Jeremy read her journal and he seemed pretty up-to-date with everything, so I think she DOES still write in her journal..we just don't see it.

I agree. When writers bring a particular fanbase a show or story, they assume that it is not necessary to fill in the blanks every five minutes. We understand from the pilot that Elena and Stefan have journals. But now, the story is continuously moving and it becomes important to push the plot along with the idea that we are living the show through written words.
Julie and Kevin are giving us the benefit of the doubt. They obviously do not feel it is necessary to hold our hands through every plot point in TVD.

So what? I mean, fine if you like the books, great. But the TV show is not the same as the book series. And the majority of the TV audience has never read the books.

Well then when they made them into tv shows they should have changed the name, but they didn't, so they mine as well follow through with what they started with.
