V Sneak Peeks: "There is No Normal Anymore"

Following an outstanding series premiere, V will hopefully maintain its momentum with a new episode Tuesday night.

Titled "There is No Normal Anymore," the hour will focus on: Ryan's secret life; Jack and Erica's burgeoning plan; and Chad's investigative endeavors.

Below, we've posted a clip from the hour, as Ryan is lying in bed with Valerie, happy, without a care in the world... until he enters the bathroom and is reminded of his rather enormous secret:

Jamie-Lynn Sigler Speaks on Ugly Betty Character

On Ugly Betty, Jamie-Lynn Sigler plays a character very different than Meadow Soprano or, well, Jamie-Lynn Sigler (the Entourage version, that is).

Earlier this season, viewers were introduced to Sigler's Natalie, who met Daniel Meade at a bereavement group and wound up working at Mode.

Guest Starring

In an interview with TV Guide, excerpts of which are below, the actress dishes on Natalie's unique look and more. Check it out...

Is Natalie funny? She's not Marc, Amanda, Wilhelmina... or Betty even. They all have real caricatured hilarity and they play it perfectly to a T. For me, Natalie is a bit more understated. I think the stuff that happens later might be considered funny.

Does she like Natalie's look? I'm not one of those people who has to look pretty. Let's make a really fun character. So I tried on about 30 wigs. I've never been involved in network television, so I wasn't really aware of the amount of people who need to OK something like your hair. So it was a long, long process, but eventually when it came to be, everybody seemed to like it.

Will Daniel and Natalie date? No. They told me that from the beginning. This is not going to be a typical love interest role. Being a fan of the show, I don't think it would be right so close to Molly's death for him to meet a woman in a bereavement group and start dating her.

Private Practice Review: "Slip Slidin' Away"

Last night's Private Practice featured four story lines barely connected to each other. We'll examine the ups and downs each in our review of "Slip Slidin' Away" below ...

Addison is treating a woman for stage four ovarian cancer, but the woman won't go to the hospital until someone she trusts agrees to watch Milo, her cat. Naturally.

We now have Addison becoming crazy cat lady. She's not quite Angela from The Office, but she gets into it. It's cute. Also cute? The oncologist, Dr. Brian Reynolds.

He asks her out and she accepts. Unfortunately, they then discover that their patient has passed away. Addison fears she may end up as Lily, dying alone with a cat.

Kind of cliched, but entertaining enough all around.

Addison, Cat Lady

Naomi meets Dr. Gabriel Fife, a wheelchair-bound specialist in complex implantation in high risk groups such as little people. He's a bit arrogant but quite brilliant.

Dr. Fife and Naomi clash over “designing” a baby for a couple who hired Fife behind her back. Nae feels she’s being asked to do a procedure that is morally wrong.

Of course, she can't confront or talk back to Dr. Fife because he’s in a wheelchair. But ultimately she does - and he's impressed. And she comes on board with him.

Anyone else think these two have the makings of an interesting couple.

Charlotte is upset because she has no patients. Cooper tries to help by going into a chat room and finding a few folks who may be in need of a good sexologist.

Charlotte catches on and says she doesn’t want pity patients. Cooper argues that it isn’t pity, it’s a referral. He was only trying to help. Charlotte comes around.

Seemed a bit like filler, but who doesn't love them some Cooplotte!

Pete treats Barbara, who is seriously depressed. Her fiance, Jimmy, desperately wants her to get better. Violet suggests a way to end the depression right now: Electroshock.

The procedure takes a few seconds and Barbara wakes up no longer depressed. But she also doesn’t know who Jimmy is. Or so she says. Violet believes she's faking amnesia.

V's theory is that something bad happened with Jimmy and she blocked it out. But Jimmy is so nice! Together, Violet and Pete decide to lie to Jimmy to spare the guy's feelings.

When Violet says memory and emotion get all wrapped up with each other and it’s hard to pull them apart, one gets the impression she's not-so-subtly talking about them.

We think they're not together, and she thinks this is for the best. We're not so sure.

NCIS Preview: "Endgame"

That's what happens when a North Korean assassin - billed as the best in the world below - from Vance's past resurfaces in town, ready to kill again.

Check out the official CBS preview for "Endgame," as well as a few images from the hour. Remember: TV Fanatic recaps and reviews each NCIS episode soon after it airs...

Community Review: "Home Economics"

On this week's Community, Abed (Danny Pudi) has proved what we've though all season, he's definitely the breakout star of the show.  That's definitely an impressive task considering Community also stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase.

During last night's episode, "Home Economics," the gang learned that Jeff was living out of his Lexus and Abed invited him to live in his dorm room.  The two of them together was like watching comedic bliss.

Meanwhile, Annie went a little crazier than usual as she tried to express her feelings for Troy, while Pierce joined Vaughn's band.  The end result?  Another fantastic episode.

Pierce Joins Vaughn

Really our only complaint with the half hour was actually after the credits.  Usually our favorite part of each episode is actually after the episode when they feature a clip of Abed and Troy goofing around.  Instead we get Pierce and some dude rapping?  Not cool.

Now for our favorite Community quotes from the breakfast club:

Jeff: The next person that offers me pity will be mentioned by name in my suicide note | permalink
Pierce: Before AIDS, sex was like shaking hands.
Abed: Hence AIDS | permalink
Britta: Are you okay? It looks like you have actual bedhead this morning.
Jeff: In fashion, I'm what's known as a taste-maker.
Britta: And you missed an entire side of your face shaving.
Jeff: And next month, so will Gwen Stefani | permalink
Jeff: TV's the best dad there is. TV never came home drunk. TV never forgot me at the zoo. TV never abused and insulted me... unless you count Cop Rock | permalink

Desperate Housewives Questions, Answers, Spoilers Galore!

A few weeks into the season, critics and fans agree that Desperate Housewives is back in full force.

But will that remain the case? Producer Bob Daily spoke to TV Guide Magazine and answered a series of reader questions this week. He and other cast/crew members offered a preview of upcoming storylines. To wit:

On Tom and Lynette's son, Parker: "Honestly, we were feeling there were too many characters on the show. But I think he’ll (eventually) be coming back," Daily said.

Kathy Najimy on Desperate Housewives

On the identity of Julie's attacker: Viewers won't discover this until the end of the season. Said Andrea Bowen (Julie): "Even the person who did it doesn’t even know. Marc Cherry made an announcement after he screened the first episode at his house. He said, ‘The greatest thing about this year’s mystery is the person who did it is in this room and has no idea,' so he’s keeping it under lock and key."

On Karen McCluskey: She'll return during the Christmas party; while portrayer Kathyrn Joosten is pushing to use her real-life cancer scare on the show. Said Daily:

“Kathryn is very keen on us doing a lung cancer story. She’s very active in lung cancer charities so is pushing for this, and we’re seeing if we can find a way to do it.”

A new episode of the show airs on Sunday. As always, we'll update our Desperate Housewives quotes section soon after it concludes.

New Private Practice-Grey's Anatomy Crossover Planned For January

Get ready for the latest installment of what is becoming an annual or even biannual tradition: the worlds of Grey's Anatomy and its spinoff Private Practice will cross over again.

Private Practice leading lady Kate Walsh is heading back to Grey’s Anatomy in January in a crossover involving Addison, Mark, and a patient played by guest star Leven Rambin.

The situation as we know it is as follows:

On Grey’s Anatomy half of the crossover, Dr. Mark Sloan (McSteamy, a.k.a. Eric Dane) pleads with Addison to come to Seattle and help perform surgery on Rambin's character.

One would assume that the girl is pregnant, given that Addison is the preeminent neonatal surgeon in, like, the whole country. But that has not been confirmed at this point.

Then, the story continues on Private Practice when, according to creator Shonda Rhimes, “complications arise and Mark takes [her] back down to L.A. for more surgery.”

As for Mark's connection to the new patient, whether sparks fly between Addison and Mark, and how Mark and Lexie are affected, that all remains to be seen. For now.

Are you excited for the latest Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice crossover?

We'll reserve judgment on this for now, but do you think they're overdoing it with these crossovers. By our quick calculations, this will be the fourth since April 2008:

  • Addison returned to Seattle near the end of Season 5 of Grey's Anatomy. We forget the exact reason right now, which probably tells you all you need to know.
  • Last season, Addison summoned Derek to treat her ailing brother, Archer (Grant Show). This story line continued for several episodes and on both programs.
  • Just this fall, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) took a transplant patient to Los Angeles, where she resides, after she was unable to get the help needed in Seattle.

FlashForward Review: "The Gift"

Alright! Finally, some action took place on this week's episode of FlashForward.

We had been growing a bit frustrated over the pace of the show. Each hour would end on a mysterious, suspenseful note - but when you'd step back and think about what had actually happened, the answer was always: not much.

The conclusion of "The Gift" changed that, however. Follow our link for a full recap and see if you agree with our following review of the episode...

RIP, Al: We had been pushing for Janis to literally bite the bullet a couple weeks ago, excited by the question of how the death of a character that had seen themselves alive in six months would throw the show for an intriguing loop. Looks like she'll make it, but Al isn't coming back from that roof dive. How will the development impact everyone's set belief in the future? We can't wait to find out.

Stan Photo

Really, Al? That said, did Al really need to kill himself in order to "change the game," as he put it? Maybe instead of entering the Blue Hand club, he could have suggested a movie to Mark and Demetri instead. Ignore a clue on Mark's board and that also "changes the game," doesn't it? Killing oneself seemed like an unnecessary, drastic way to not give in to the future.

Hello, Tracy: It was nice to see Aaron given more of a focus. His vision of his daughter alive was the most fascinating of anyone's on the show. As he told Mark in the premiere, unlike many other characters, Aaron wants his future to come true. The series has since ignored the opposing views of these friends in regard to their flash forwards. But now we have Al's death changing the game; yet Tracy's life possibly proving its validity. A nice contrast.

Goodbye, rest of the world: This is a problem we've had since the premiere. The show has done a poor job depicting the utter panic that would be ensuing around the globe. 20 million people died in the blackouts. 20 million!!!

The series is obsessed with its core characters and their immediate problems, which pale in comparison to the global catastrophe that just took place. The world should be in chaos and in mourning, making it difficult to care very much if Mark and Olivia stay together. As a side storyline that keeps us invested in these individuals? Sure. But their marital problems are focused on more than any other issue.

Did anyone watch the pilot episode of V? It masterfully introduced its main characters, while setting up a society in general that is clearly reeling from the developments surrounding it. We need more of that on FlashForward.

Agree? Disagree? Leave a comment. Let us know!
