How do you feel about the werewolves on The Originals?

Jackson vs. Elijah

They really need to flesh the werewolves out more. We don't really know much of anything about Francesca and the Guerrea werewolves. They also really didn't spend enough time developing the Crescent wolves. Jackson was just there a lot of the time - they didn't really develop him as a character yet. Had they focused more on Jackson/Hayley and the werewolves I might care about them a lot more. But they didn't - they were so busy trying to force the Haylijah ship that they didn't develop the werewolves properly by not allowing Hayley to really share screen time with them (instead only giving her screen time with Elijah). Hayley's main goal was to be reunited with the werewolves so that should have been her primary storyline this season.Sadly almost all of Hayley's time with the werewolves happened off-screen (just like they did to Tyler on TVD - they never showed him making friends with other werewolves and all his development with them happened in off-screen land).

Was there really a point to them? I mean other than having Hayley being their so called princess. The only werewolf story plot that was good, was the one about Francesca's family. I think Francesca should just kill everyone and rule the city.

The wolf mythology and story lines were just so messy this season. Why on earth would Marcel curse a pack of wolves to be deadly 30 days of the month instead of 1 night? Why on earth were Jackson and Oliver (and all of other 20 somethings in the pack) transitioned wolves back in the 90s when they were likely toddlers? Did they murder someone with their Fisher-Price shovel? The wolves served one purpose this season: to provide a reason for Hayley to exist in NOLA outside of her pregnancy. The hidden family thing could have been very promising but they ditched it in favor of making Hayley a "queen" and a "messiah" to her people. We were hit over the head again and again with how important and special she was even though she really added nothing to the pack or their agenda. She was just pregnant. The most interesting (and most ignored) potential plot was the wolf pack linked to Klaus' family line. But they dropped that and picked it up more times than I can count, without ever giving us any more information about them. In 13 episodes, we got nothing from that storyline. What even? Overall, the wolves were such a let down, and I'm sorry to say but Hayley was a huge part of that.

I still don't understand why Hayley is on the show. She is just so out of place and the scenes in which she interacts with the mikaelson are so awkward and forced. It doesn't help that the actress who plays her is pretty terrible. Honestly I just wish they'd kill/send her off.

@ Belle

let me guess, it would be soooo much better if klaus' wifey caroline came to new orleans and you would think she would fit in so much better. because then your ship would be happening. the writers aren't going to kill off a character just because you don't like her, you're not in charge, thank god.

@ diane

Um, no. This has nothing to do with Caroline. The Originals should be about the Mikaelson family only. Their history, their dynamic, THEIR STORY. Why does everything have to revolve around Hayley in one way or the other? What is so good about her, besides being pregnant? What is her purpose? She couldn't find her family (Tyler found them within a few months), she's not strong or powerful, not remorseful, not very intelligent and is pretty much annoying. There is NOTHING compelling about her character, nothing that will glue the audiences' attention to her scenes. They've thrown all these majestic titles at her without actually doing anything to earn them. She doesn't have a say in ANYTHING; Klaus and Elijah order her around and she just follows. Hayley has no depth or personality; she's a weak female character and TO needs a strong female lead. Her character has brought down the whole show.

@ Lannister

God, and what is so hard to understand about that? I honestly could care less about Klaroline either way, and I can't stand the fact that Caroline/Klaroline is used to shut down literally every legitimate criticism about this show. It's clear that the fans as well as the writers aren't interested in hearing any constructive criticism, but that can only damage the show in the long run. As you said, there is absolutely nothing compelling about this character or the actress who plays her. She has been an absolute mess from start to finish, and I honestly can't even figure out why she's there (despite the fact that the writers constantly point out her princess status and baby making abilities that supposedly make her the most important character in the show). Ugh, and the fact that it never occurred to the writers that making a completely pointless side character into the lead of their show solely because she was pregnant with Klaus' child might be a little offensive to the female audience members is shocking to me. I'd like to imagine that women have more to offer than their reproductive organs, thank you very much. But the ultimate issue, as you pointed out, is that this show was supposed to be about the Mikaelsons. Of course I didn't expect it to be about only the Mikaelsons, but I certainly expected them to be the focus of the show (and watching Klaus and Elijah obsess over these random horrible female characters doesn't count, sorry). If the writers had not intended for that to be the premise of the show, which it obviously wasn't from the very beginning, then they shouldn't have bothered to call it The Originals and they shouldn't have taken Klaus and Elijah and transformed them into completely unrecognizable characters in order to serve their Hayley Diaries agenda. At the beginning of this season I was an enormous Mikaelson fan and I thought I would have followed Klaus through anything. But after watching him slowly devolve into a moping crybaby as well as coming to the realization that Hayley was a character I simply couldn't tolerate watching I have decided not to watch TO next season. I'm just amazed that the writers managed to create a character that I disliked so much that it actually managed to kill the love I had for some of my favorite TV characters of all time.

@ diane

Diane, you seem very bitter. Please don't bring shipping into this, its very hypocritical. I find the whole retconning of Hayley to be very messy, I found that the talent of Phoebe Tonkin really struggled in even a supporting role, so moving her forward into some sort of were royalty, messiah just became a real mess, she didn't pull off scenes that were handed to her basically gift wrapped. You might love her, I suspect from the direction of your derision that you ship her with someone??? Can you see the hypocrisy in attacking those who bring up legitimate points, YOU are the aggressor here, perhaps mull on that for a while?

I wanted a show about the Original family, not the special snowflake werequeen messiah, lol, Hayley Queen of the rednecks. Why did they make the werewolves such rednecks? Bring back Rebekah post haste, and kick this boring ridiculous wereplot to the curb, along with Phoebe Tonkin who clearly struggles in even a supporting role!

@ The Originals

the original family got a lot more screentime than the "special snowflake werequeen messiah." lol i know you're bitter klaroline isn't happening but phoebe isn't going anywhere get over it

@ diane

Why are you bringing Klaroline into this?!! God I hate it when people ignore legitimate criticism and blame it on "bitter shippers". I'm not a Klaroline shipper. I'm not a shipper of anything actually, and I hate Hayley and I think her character brings the show down massively. Hayley is an awfully written and acted character who has no place on the show, which was supposed to be about the original family, at all.

@ Ellis

@Ellis The show IS about The Original family! So is no other characters allowed on the show?? the only characters allowed are Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah?? Because then that would be a really boring show.

@ Maria

The show is not focused on the actual originals, they aren't saying no other characters are allowed.

The Originals Quotes

They say the passage of time will heal all wounds, but the greater the loss, the deeper the cut and the more difficult the process to become whole again. The pain may fade, but scars serve as a reminder of our suffering and make the bearer all the more resolved never to be wounded again. So as time moves along we get lost in distractions, act out in frustration, react with aggression, give in to anger, and all the while we plot and plan as we wait to grow stronger, and before we know it, the time passes. We are healed. Ready to begin anew.

Elijah: [to Sabine] You ever experienced something so profoundly wonderful that when it was taken from you your life felt unbearable?
Sabine: Yes, I have felt that. And I have the scars to prove it.
Elijah: I believe that when you love someone and that person loves you in return you're uniquely vulnerable. They have a power to hurt you that's like nothing else.
