  • Why Yale...? (11/17/2008)

Now, I know that Blair was the main character in the books and was completey obsessed with Yale. So, I understand wanting to be faithful to that. However, at this point it seems like the writers are committing themselves to sending at least a few major characters there (Blair, Serena, maybe Dan and/or Nate), and I just don't think it'll work.

I was a fan of The O.C. and I saw Josh Schwartz and company make huge mistakes with that high school-college transition. I know it's unrealistic and everything, but I don't mind it when shows go the 90210 "California University" route. I think it can simplify those hairy little details in ways that  ultimately outweigh the stretch of the imagination a show asks of its audience.

Beyond that, they have a perfectly legitmate alternative: COLUMBIA! It's an Ivy, well-known, and in the Upper West Side. Josh Schwartz has said that he's not worried about the transition because he doesn't feel Goosip Girl is set in high school so much as he feels it's set in NYC. And New Haven isn't NYC.

I go to the school where they filmed a huge chunk of the Yale ep (Brooklyn College) and I selfishly wouldn't mind having the crew on campus some more. But it won't be worth it if it means the characters have storylines that are that much harder to intertwine and we are once again (as we were with The O.C.) forced to embrace the recurring guest stars as the pot stirrers.

    Thoughts?

  • Confirmed Death (Only Possible 5) (10/28/2008)

everyone is convinced that it isn't bart now because he has been seen filming in the past few days. and, while i appreciate that, i don't think it should discredit the fact that EVERY OTHER PIECE OF EVIDENCE points to him. not to mention, his is the character that makes the most sense to kill. there's a reason it's obvious.

i'd sooner believe they are filming out of sequence before the winter hiatus than ignore the probability that bart is going to die.
