Here's to hoping Fitz dies and Mellie for some reason ends up as the President. That would be a serious upturn for the show. Mellie as President would reel me back in as a loyal watcher. I fast-forward the scenes with Fitz now and realized that I'm not missing any of the plot. He seriously does not make any of the major decisions that moves the story along. Other than arresting Jake he has not contributed much.
I've read comments you have made before and I must say that whenever I see the way you reply to people I doubt we even see the same universe. But to answer your question the same can be said about books. The way people perceive events and people is completely subjective. Backgrounds, history, past experiences all play a part in how someone interprets someone's actions and responses and even fictional stories. If you are going to rely on statements like you pointed out above, I recall Fitz made similar comments to Rowan to get under his skin. Maybe Fitz just wants Olivia so he can win. Maybe the idea that he would actually lose at someone drives him nuts. He certainly exhibits behavior that would suggest that Olivia is some kind of prize or property, otherwise he'd take into account her feelings and want her to be happy.
Considering that Julie Plec did say that Stefan and Elena are the epic love story of the show she could very well end it with those 2 back together. Since you are right and it will probably end with Season 7 Delena nuts being mad won't make much a difference and Julie can end the series how she wants. In the books Bonnie becomes Damon's true love so this very well could be one of the things the show takes from the books. Bamon shippers are not off when it comes to their relationship since the books have them together.
