Tori Spelling Defends Donna/David Split

On this week's 90210, Donna Martin returned, chock full of news:

Her and David were separated.

Many former Beverly Hills, 90210 fans - including the author of this post! - were peeved over the storyline. It seems like a low blow to followers of that show, considering how the finale was based around Donna and David's wedding.

But Tori Spelling is defending the development to TV Guide.

"It was something we discussed, the producers and I, and I thought it was real," Spelling said. "There's just a real storyline there. What happens when a couple of high school sweethearts grow up and become adults, and parents, and have different career paths? Sometimes you kind of move away from each other."

The actress is also quick to note separated doesn't necessarily lead to divorce.

"We'll see what happens," said Spelling. "I know the audience loves David and Donna together and hopefully it will all work out."

What do you think of the Donna/David split? Is it a cheap, unfair plot device? Or a logical continuation of this relationship?

90210 Music on TV Fanatic

There's no doubt that music is a big part of the new 90210.

With that in mind, we've added a feature that allow fans to browse the songs from each episode, listen to samples and purchase them on iTunes, and even look up the lyrics.

Here's a sampling of some of the new songs we added today from "Off the Rails," "Life's a Drag," and last night's "Okaeri, Donna:"

90210 Recap: "Okaeri, Donna!"

As if Donna Martin's return to the zip code that made her famous wasn't enough, last night's 90210 also featured a naked male model; sex in the woods; and enough Dr. Pepper shilling to last a lifetime.

It was a fun episode all around.

Read our detailed recap of "Okaeri, Donna!" and share your thoughts on the latest developments.

Diablo and Donna

Check out a few of our favorite 90210 quotes from the episode:

Donna: The French have Jerry Lewis; the Japanese have Donna Martin. | permalink
Kelly: Do you wanna journal?
Silver: No, I don't wanna journal, nor do I wanna use "journal" as a verb. | permalink
Harry: How will we pass the time? I've got an idea: sex. Lots of sex. Starting right now. | permalink
Naomi: Play your cards right and maybe we'll see some along time together.
Liam: That's an oxymoron. | permalink

Dylan McKay, 2.0? 90210 Stars Hints at Darker Side

Since before he arrived on 90210, Matt Lanter (Liam) was billed by The CW as the "new Dylan McKay."

Lofty standards to live up.

Over the next few 90210 episodes, though, it looks like the character will truly let out his inner bad boy.

"Liam takes out Ethan to a camping trip. Ethan's trying to find himself and Liam encourages that from people, trying to find what's deep inside. He gets Ethan into some trouble. Liam's presence is being felt in a pretty major way," Lanter said to E! Online.

Moreover, look for Liam's new romance with Naomi to hit a rough patch.

"By the end of the season, there's going to be some major drama with [Naomi] and her sister and possibly Annie. There's some problem with her sister. She comes in and she definitely makes things tough in 90210. People are definitely going to be angry and betrayed.

For more from Lanter, check out TV Fanatic's exclusive interview with the actor.

90210 Round Table: "Off the Rails"

Welcome to the 90210 Round Table!

Every week, a trio of TV Fanatic writers gather to analyze the burning questions and memorable moments from the most recent installment. What did we like and dislike about "Off the Rails?"

Let's discuss! This week's topics from the show include Annie's attitude, Kelly/Ryan, Adrianna's baby and more...

Annie said she's been acting like a jerk. Do you agree?
BrendaLova: That's going a bit too far. Don't be so hard on yourself, Annie. Blindly - perhaps ignorantly - seeking love in high school? Who among us has not been there?!?

The Real McKa
y: Going behind your supposed friends' back and dating her ex?  I would say "jerk" is the most G-rated word I could call her.  Do girls have a version of the bro code?  If so, Annie totally violated it.

Wild4Wilds: No. That would imply Shenae Grimes has been acting in some effective way.

90210 RT

Will Kelly and Ryan date?
The Real McKay: Of course!  Ryan may have slept with Kelly's best friend, but have you seen how cute he is?  I forgave him, and so will Kelly.

Wild4Wilds: Sure. It's not like Kelly hasn't lapped up Brenda's sloppy seconds before (see McKay, Dylan).

BrendaLova: Come on. Did Steve Sanders have curly hair?

Did they succeed? And what did one of them determine about Silver? Find out now in our detailed recap of "Off the Rails."

Annie and Ethan Pic

Relive the hour with the following 90210 quotes from this new installment...

Silver: I was gonna go to Kansas because Kansas equals Dixon. And Dixon equals baking soda. | permalink
Ethan: Annie, things haven't been good. We haven't been happy. | permalink
Silver: How do you understand how anyone becomes who they are? You have to go back to the past... every moment is connected to a million other moments. | permalink
Ryan: You can't blame yourself.
Kelly: Why not? You did. | permalink
Debbie: You had sex?
Harry: You made a movie of it? | permalink

90210 Clips from "Off the Rails"

Tonight's episode of 90210, "Off the Rails," focuses on a pair of contrasting storylines:

  • Silver continues to lose her mind, as she finds herself - distraught and disoriented - among the railroad tracks;
  • Navid and Adrianna come to a much happier conclusion, as they babysit Kelly's son: perhaps they can be parents, after all.

An Exclusive Interview with 90210 Star Jessica Stroup

Jessica Stroup doesn't merely star as Erin Silver on 90210.

Her character is currently involved in the show's main storyline, as Silver misplaced a few of her marbles last week. She filmed a sexual encounter between herself and her boyfriend and used it as a school project; she then broke into her teacher's apartment and pretty much threatened to kill him if he didn't fix the situation.

Ah, life in Beverly Hills.

We recently spoke with Stroup, who updated us on Silver's mental state, while also providing a glimpse into the future of the series...

TV Fanatic: When did you find out about the current direction of your character? Did you always know Silver would develop mental problems?
Jessica Stroup: I had a meeting with the writers in January, as soon as we got back from Christmas break. They asked if I wanted to tackle this and I just thought of the challenge. I really wanted to give it a go.
Since then, if you've noticed, we've been building questions and suspense. You can go back and ask questions, like why did Silver get so upset about the chocolate cake [in the Valentine's Day episode] and why is she so mad at certain times?

Scorned Silver

TV Fanatic: Did you do any special research into bipolar disorder, or any other psychiatric issues, in preparation for this storyline?
Stroup: I'm a visual person, so when it was decided that we were going in this direction, I went on YouTube and typed in a series of related keywords. There are a lot of brave people that have made videos and talked about what they've gone through.
The most important thing I learned is that, in Silver's mind, her ideas make sense. Why would Dixon get mad that students saw their sex tape? Wasn't that a beautiful act? In her mind, she certainly isn't crazy.

TV Fanatic: You've worked closely with Jennie Garth. Did she give you any advice about handling the growing fame a show such as this brings with it?

Stroup: I love working with her. She's everything all wrapped into one: mother, wife, professional, star. She's created this amazing world for herself. She's so supportive,  so open-minded. I've been in awe of her.

TV Fanatic: What's it been like adjusting to life in the spotlight?
Stroup: It's been a huge adjustment. I had done some movies and acted on other shows, but I've certainly never been followed around by paparazzi before. Mostly, I've learned who to trust. But overall, I love the industry, I love my job, love where I live. I'm not gonna let the paparazzi or anyone ruin this for me.
