It's 1945, and Reinhardt is testing the artifact on innocent villagers. A young woman is brought into the interrogation room and forced to touch the Obelisk. Rather than incinerate her, the artifact begins to glow. Reinhardt is determined to learn what makes her special. "Discovery requires experimentation and this experiment will take time" the villain says. In the present, Skye's father (the Doctor) informs us the "diviner" can kill, but only to protect itself from those unworthy of unlocking its true power. Taking the Obelisk to the mysterious city will grant the holder access to a temple. Coulson and his team take on the important mission of using satellite technology to map the earth and locate the mysterious city. He tells Skye they need to find it because "if we don't, HYDRA will. We need to get there first." Meanwhile, Bobbi was tasked with interrogating Ward's gift, HYDRA's Sunil Bakshi. It didn't take long for May, Simmons and the others to locate Agent Carter's original file on Reinhardt. While undercover at HYDRA Simmons met Whitehall and quickly realizes Reinhardt and Whitehall are one in the same. Via flashback Reinhardt tells Agent Carter the Obelisk has its story. "A myth from the east of stars that fell from the heavens. Of blue angels who came bearing a gift for all mankind meant to save the world." Peggy Carter locks him away for life. Flash forward to the Doctor correcting Whitehall. The blue aliens were meant to end mankind sparing only a chosen few. Elsewhere, Grant abducts his brother, Senator Christian Ward, forcing him to dig up the old well. Grant threatens to throw Christian in the well unless he shares the truth about this one event from their past. The Senator admits he made Grant push their younger brother down the well. Coulson is ambushed by HYDRA while working to triangulate the location of the city. Tripp is wounded and the Doctor appears blowing his cover and informing Coulson the Obelisk has something inside. Everyone will ultimately make their way to this city for a final standoff now that Coulson has located the city. Ward meets with Whitehall and the Doctor assuring them he is an asset since he spent time with S.H.I.E.L.D., specifically Coulson's team. A news report tells us Ward killed his family, setting their home on fire. We also learn that after his release Whitehall meets the young woman from 1945 and she has not aged a day. The villain tortures and kills her until he unlocks the secret of eternal youth. The woman was none other than Skye's mother and the Doctor will stop at nothing to avenge his wife's death.
