On American Horror Story: Freak Show Season 4 Episode 10, Salty's passing has a troubling effect on Pepper. Desiree tries to comfort Pepper and grows upset when Desiree tries to leave. 

Elsa tells Desiree the history of how her show came to be. She collected her freaks from orphanages and raised them as her own. Pepper was her first monster. Ma Petite was her second joy, traded for three cases of Dr. Pepper. After learning that Pepper has lost everyone she ever loved, Desiree suggests that it's time for Pepper to return home to her sister.

Maggie is distraught after her breakup with Jimmy. Desiree and Angus see her for a reading and after starting a tale of happiness for the new lovebirds, she turns her story to one of doom. Later, Desiree confronts her and Maggie confesses that she and Stanley are grifters who've come to the camp to steal from the show's customers. Desiree doesn't believe her story.

Bette and Dot give Maggie their surgery money to hire a lawyer for Jimmy. Stanley visits Jimmy in jail and Jimmy says he can't remember if he killed the women or not. He doesn't believe he killed them but he can't be sure. Stanley tells Jimmy he has a plan to pay for an attorney.

In a flash forward, we learn how Pepper ended up at Briarclif with Sister Eunice.
