Top Seven Performance Show
American Idol Season 8 Episode 29 (04/14/09)
Recap
American Idol went to the movies this week. It was an unusual performance show, as director Quentin Tarantino was the guest mentor for some reason; while, due to time constraints, only two judges critiqued performances at a time.
There wasn't nearly enough Simon Cowell.
But there were a few solid auditions. Adam Lambert, as always, blew us away with a rousing rendition of "Born to Be Wild." It wasn't his best, but he's set the bar so high for himself.
Allison Iraheta, meanwhile, went with "Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith. She really made it her own, as Simon rightfully replied: "[You're] the girls' only chance [to win this season]."
As for Kris Allen? He chose a random song, "Falling Slowly," from a random movie, Once. Randy didn't like it, but we agree with Kara: it was beautifully sung, and it was cool that he chose a song that clearly had meaning to him.
Here's a rundown of which artist sang which song:
- Adam Lambert -- Born to Be Wild
- Matt Giraud -- Have You Ever Loved a Woman
- Allison Iraheta -- Don't Want To Miss A Thing
- Anoop Desai -- Everything I Do
- Lil Rounds -- The Rose
- Kris Allen -- Falling Slowly
- Danny Gokey -- Endless Love
