It all came down to Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze this week. Each sung three songs, each did well, but only one received the following praise from Simon Cowell:
"I thought that was, by far, the best performance and the song of the night. That was outstanding."
To whom did he utter these words? Bowersox, following her final performance of the night, a cover of Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain." We loved it, as well, along with Crystal's version of "Black Velvet." She really left her comfort zone on that one, even donning a dress for the occasion.
Lee did well, but his final performance of U2's "Beautifu Day" was a bit tepid. It didn't suit his voice. This is how we'd rank the six songs overall:
- Crystal Bowersox, Up to the Mountain
- Crystal Bowersox, Black Velvet
- Lee DeWyze, Everybody Hurts
- Lee DeWyze, Beautiful Day
- Crystal Bowersox, Me and Bobby McGee
- Lee DeWyze, The Boxer
