Recap

During a night of rock 'n roll performances, Adam Lambert proved to the world that he's anything but a one-note, Broadway star. The guy can seriously rock!

Here's a review of each finalist's audition, as guest mentor Slash watched from the crowd:

- Lambert won't be stuck in the bottom two this week. His performance of “Whole Lotta Lovin’” by Led Zeppelin was flawless, as he belted out the words with the ideal, high vocals of a heavy-metal star. Sum it up for us, Randy Jackson: “This is the Adam I love, dude."

- Allison Irahets didn't receive the same praise for her a Janis Joplin song, “Cry Baby."  Randy and Kara would have preferred a different choice from her, though Simon stood up for the young singer and complimented Allison on her "staggering" progress.

- Our ears still hurt from Danny Gokey's taken on "Dream On" by Aerosmith. For some reason, though, the judges refused to really critique Danny. Randy and Kara actually gave him an A-plus for effort, while Simon at least said the concluding note was "horrendous," yet also predicated Danny would be safe. We hope he's not.

- Clearly out of his element, Kris Allen did the best rock star impression he could on The Beatles‘ “Come Together." Simon described it "like eating ice for lunch.” We guess that means it left him cold.

Lambert and Iraheta, along with Gokey and Allen, also performed duets on the show. Mostly to kill time, as viewers weren't given numbers to call in and vote on these performances. Adam and Allison clearly put on a better duet, though.
