This is Adam Lambert competition to lose.
The theatrical singer toned down his usual antics on last night's American Idol, belting out an incredible version of Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of My Tears." He received well-earned raves from the judges.

Last night was billed as Grand Ole Opry night on American Idol, as the 11 finalist sang Nashville classics - but not everybody sang country, in the end.
Adam Lambert brought a Middle Eastern flair to Johnny Cash’s "Ring of Fire," while Kris Allen and Anoop Desai cheesed it up and went for the teen heartthrob vote with tender renditions of "To Make You Feel My Love" and "Always on My Mind."

Last night was billed as Michael Jackson night on American Idol, as the 13 finalist sang classics by the King of Pop.
In reality, though, it was Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert night. These singers stood head and shoulders above the competition, thanks to a pair of rousing performances.

American Idol announced its complete roster of season eight finalists last night.
But there was a twist!
Either the quartet of judges forgot how to count to 12 - the customary number of finalists each year - or Simon, Randy, Paula and Kara simply couldn't deprive viewers of the four singers that have now joined the previously-announced final nine.
Yes, that makes for a total of 13 finalists.
