Via flashback, we learn Flint returned from Nassau with news the pirates had killed the Governor's wife and son. They were attempting to prove who really controlled the island. This was a setback for Hamilton's plans and Miranda realized Flint was heading down a dangerous path. Though Flint did not think Hamilton Sr. would ruin them all over his son's vision for Nassau, Miranda knew otherwise. Ultimately, Admiral Hennessey discharges Flint from service asking him never to return to London. In the present, Flint and Miranda arrive at Eleanor's place to discuss another option. Miranda informs Flint that Captain Vane killed Captain Low acquiring his important cargo; Peter Ashe's only daughter. While Flint argued Peter was not the same man and the could not negotiate with him, Miranda told him, "Of course you can, because you will just have presented him with his only daughter. Safe and unharmed and without conditions." She then told Flint it was time to let go of his shame and guilt. You see, Flint had fallen in love with her husband, Thomas Hamilton, and she accepted the relationship. He assured her the only thing he was ashamed of was not doing something to save Thomas, who was committed to an insane asylum due to the affair. As Flint reminisced about his time with Thomas, Captain Vane made his move and attacked.
