After a fight with Booth, Brennan returns to the lab to continue working on a case. While there, she is shot but once she's in surgery, no bullet can be found. During several periods of unconsciousness, and one two-minute period of death, Bones talks to her late mother, Christine. The team works to find out who shot her and determine how she was shot without a bullet.
