Fox Reveals Bones Midseason Premiere Date, Spring Schedule

Fox has unveiled its revamped, slightly confusing early spring schedule.

It includes the winter finale of Glee; many airings of American Idol; the return date (finally!) of Bones; and the debut of Hotel Hell, the latest Gordon Ramsay-anchored reality competition...

Bones' Baby Birth to Involve ...

The arrival of Brennan's baby girl will happen soon after Bones returns this spring.

According to David Boreanaz, the following things will be involved in that event:

A horse
A farm
A lot of wine

Sounds like an episode not to be missed ... except by those imbibing, perhaps.

"There's some trauma that happens that may twist the series a bit," he teases.

No exact due date has been released ... but Brennan is ready to pop!

Lightening the mood for David and costar Emily Deschanel, according to TV Guide, was that the fake baby they worked with was covered in "grape jelly and cream cheese. And Emily's right foot kept hitting me in the head."

Bones Review: Death Goes Digital

Booth and Brennan found themselves hunting for more than just the perfect home on Bones this week. When severed remains appeared at the American Heritage Museum, the Jeffersonian team plunged in to the world of informants and clues embedded in the skull and vertebrae of the victim to find the killer.

Indeed, "The Crack in the Code" was quite an eventful winter finale.

I was pretty impressed with the innovation and imagination of the writers room on this one. Never would I have conjured up the idea of rearranging spinal vertebrae to fashion a code of any kind. Yet it was no surprise that Hodgins was the one to crack it, with the help of his lovely wife Angela. This was every government conspiracy buff's dream.

Bones has had slew of infamous serial killers and snipers ranging from The Gravedigger to Broadsky. This one, however, takes the concept to a whole new level.

I will forever be stumped as to how an effective fractal pattern containing malware could be etched into the distal end of a bone. Especially not one that would send Angela's entire electronics collection up in flames. It's epic in a very sick kind of way.

It seems Christopher Pollant will not soon be forgotten, as our team was unable to directly connect him to the string of bodies left for them to find and identify. I only have one question: Who's next?

On a much lighter note, Booth and Brennan were not only chasing potential serial killers, but also searching for the perfect home. With their little girl six weeks from being born, it was down to the wire for those two to find a place to live.

One thing that struck me about their choice was that it had to be in the most unlivable condition known to mankind. Worse still, Booth and his help will have minimal time to make it into a livable and family-friendly dwelling.

Perhaps the most endearing feature of this home is its symbolic quality. Booth and Brennan's likening the house to a symbol of their conquering of the bad guys was a fitting comparison. If there's anyone who deserves to live in a rehabilitated home that signals their strength, it's Booth, Brennan and their little girl.

It's a shame this show is going on hiatus again! Guess we will have to wait a little bit longer to see the birth, and, more interestingly, how this whole house thing works out!

Bones Sneak Preview Clips: Sending a Message

Bones' latest adversary makes his debut tonight, or at least his "work" does.

In the show's 2012 premiere - which was actually its 2011 final postponed by a month, and giving way to another lengthy hiatus after tonight - the team investigates what appears to be a murder scene at a national monument.

The only clue left is a coded message in human blood - and vertebrae, reassembled in a way that even gives Brennan pause - that will be the beginning of a scavenger hunt for the solution, courtesy of their mysterious foe.

Meanwhile, Booth and Brennan look for a new home. Man cave and girl cave required.

Will Booth and Brennan Get Married on Bones?

Now that they've become a full-fledged couple, will Booth and Brennan get married on Bones?

According to the long-running Fox show's affable executive producer, Stephen Nathan ...

YES! Just not this season, most likely.

“I can’t see a wedding happening this season," he told TV Line. “At some point I think that there has to be [a wedding]. But there are going to be so many problems they’ll have to deal with before that."

For example, "how their work is affected by this baby - and it’s going to be affected a lot.”

This season has been a mess from the start, from a scheduling standpoint, so that makes sense. Only five episodes have aired so far, with a brand new one tomorrow night, followed by another long hiatus.

By the time Bones returns in earnest this spring, we still have the lead-up to the baby's birth and all that encompasses. Perhaps Season 8, which is almost certainly in the cards, will feature their nuptials?

Bones Promo: Someone Smarter Than Brennan?

Bones promised to introduce a "21st Century, tech savvy adversary" in Season 7.

It looks like next week, on the delayed midseason finale, we may meet that foe.

In "The Crack in the Code," the Jeffersonian team investigates a murder scene at a national monument (the Lincoln Memorial, it appears), but the only clue left is a coded message made of human blood. Obviously.

This case is only the beginning of a scavenger hunt for the solution, courtesy of their new, technologically-proficient foe. Elsewhere, Booth and Brennan continue down the road to domesticity, looking for a new home.

Sadly, this episode - airing Thursday, January 12 at a special time, 8 p.m. EST - is Bones' last until the spring. The Finder spinoff will fill in from January 12 at 9 p.m. until Bones returns in March or April.

Bones Promo: Remember The Finder?

Bones fans are not going to like this promo.

Not only has "The Crack in the Code" been pushed back - the last of six fall episodes filmed before star Emily Deschanel's maternity leave was supposed to air this week, but is now scheduled for Thursday, January 12 - but even the promo for the episode has been hijacked by The Finder.

The spinoff's premiere prompted the scheduling move by Fox. After January 12, Bones goes off the air until the spring, with Geoff Stults and The Finder taking its place. It's hard not to be disappointed by this.

Still, perhaps The Finder will be a pleasant surprise when given a chance to come into its own. Right now, it's only viewed in the context of depriving Bones fans of their weekly does of Booth and Brennan.

Not the best marketing. Anyway, here's the thrown-together promo for The Finder quasi-pilot from last spring, which airs again this Thursday, and the short-lived return of Bones January 12 ...

Bones Review: Murder by Rainbow

Last week's Bones hit a particularly emotional high.

This week, we got a much lighter installment with the return of Fisher and an appearance by Angela's father. Not to mention Booth delving into the world of storm chasers, and Brennan simply trying to keep up with him.

And it all happened on "The Twist in the Twister."

From the beginning, we could see that Booth and Brennan were becoming more and more at odds with each other as they neared Brennan's delivery date. No scene demonstrated that more than when Booth refused to let Brennan help herself up from examining the remains.

I think we've been headed this way for the first few episodes, and while they seemed to get so much closer last Thursday, it was interesting to see Booth right back in the driver's seat.

Clearly he wants what's best for Brennan and their daughter, but if there's one thing we learned last week, it's that she can hold her own in ways that continue to surprise even those viewing their relationship play out on screen.

Long and short of it, he should just let Brennan take care of herself in this respect. Easier said than done, or else we wouldn't get to see Booth insist on her wearing slippers through the house, threatening to leave her suffering with splinters if failed to comply.

It's the little moments like these that demonstrate how genuine their relationship is. You could really see a couple bumping up against issues of independence versus overprotective tendencies.

If there's one thing we learned this week, it's that sleep deprivation can make you come up with some of the craziest inventions known to man. Hodgins was so desperate, he considered strapping Michael to a contraption just to get him some zzzzs.

Lucky for them, Angela's rocking dad dropped into town with a musical solution. I can only imagine their relief. If I had found myself in a similar situation, I wouldn't have been as functional as they were. Even with those glug-jugs of coffee.

Other highlights from this episode:

The return of Mr Fisher.
Mr. Fisher's ringtones.
Mr. Fisher's relationship problems - both with his mom and his new, nameless, girlfriend.
Misty, her unspeakably bright clothing and her obsession with rainbows.
Michael. Enough said.

Clearly the re-appearance of the interns is a highlight of my Bones viewing experience, as are eccentric support characters, and adorable babies when possible.

And now we wait. With what was to be the final installment of this sixth episode arc postponed in anticipation of boosting The Finder's series premiere ratings, Bones fans are made to suffer. The worst part is, I fear their attempts may be in vain. But, of course, that's just me.

I'm still bitter they interjected a pilot into the middle of Bones last spring, which, if you missed it, will be airing in the place of Bones next Thursday.

Bones Midseason Finale Pushed Back to January

Bones' short fall season just got shorter.

This week's episode, "The Twist in the Twister," will be the last of 2011. The show’s December 15 midseason finale has been moved back to January 12, where it will lead into the premiere of new spinoff, The Finder.

It's a scheduling move unlikely to be received well by fans, who already had to wait until November 3 for the show to premiere, and who were promised a six-episode mini-arc this fall that's now been cut to five.

But, from Fox’s perspective, the network is looking to guarantee The Finder - which will air an undetermined number of episodes this winter before Bones returns later in the spring - decent ratings in its first week out.

Bottom line, after January 12, Bones is likely gone again for two months, after which episodes filmed after Emily Deschanel's maternity leave will air. Too bad, since the show really hit its stride with last week's episode.

Bones Promo: Nothing to See Here!

After an episode last night that was one of the series' best in some time (see our Bones review from earlier), the show is gearing up for an epic twist next Thursday. Or at least an epic twister.

The body of a storm-chaser found after a tornado doesn't seem all that unusual until a video shows a more sinister culprit than Mother Nature ... who doesn't exist, Brennan helpfully notes.

Meanwhile, a desperate Angela and Hodgins turn to her father (the great Billy Gibbons) for child-care assistance (!) and Brennan must cope with Booth's increasing over-protectiveness.

That can leave them both in some compromising positions sometimes, as the promo below illustrates.
